    Another "duh!" moment.

I am about to attempt my first ever try at rewiring my Epee. I need to know if I should insert the wire into the barrel then thread it onto the blade or do I pull the wire through after the barrel is installed. Our regular armorer is not available these days and I don't trust the student replacement so I'm asking you experienced folks out there. Eventually I WILL figure this all out.

    Thanks for your patience.

You want to pull the wire through the barrel and then put the barrel on the blade. Just don't pull too far into the barrel before you tighten. Otherwise something will get caught (most likely the cap) inside the barrel and when you tighten you'll tear the wire.

Just like rtran said, I would: thread the wires through the barrel just enough so I can pull the wires (usually an inch or two). Put the barrel on tightly (use locktite or not), then pull the wires through. My reason is the same with rtan's, and that it's if you were to tighten the barrel after you pull the wire through, you might twist and cut or crimp the wires.

rtan and mifencer are right in that you don't want to pull the cup down into the barrel before you tighten it, but you want to do it that way (i.e., putting it mostly through) instead of putting the barrel on first and then threading in the wire. This is for two reasons: (1) It's a lot harder to thread the wire through once the barrel is on the blade, and (2) if you pull the WHOLE length of the wire through with the barrel already on, you run more risk of nicking the insulation somewhere. (been there, done that).

I posted a similar thread about six weeks back; if you check the older posts, you will find some excellent, highly detailed responses.
