I hope that the next cabinet members will be flaming liberals to offset Rumsfeld. Boy, I spelled that wrong, didn't I. I need to go to sleep.

Heh, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

( Although the idea of liberals on fire is not without a certain appeal. )

Yes, because the government knowing which books I take out of the library isn't creepy/worrying at all.

Or what movies you watch on cable, or how often you fly to Milwakee, or that little itch you had that was discussed with only your doctor! Not a worrisome thought at all that records from anyone could be "requested" without your permission or even notification at anytime without any apparant cause or purpose. And if that wasn't bad enough, the thought that your doctor, librarian, cable provider, or neighbor could be "gagged" from even telling you that the material was requested an/or turned over, is maybe the worst part of that act.

Fortunately, all members of those organizations wear clearly visible marks, identifying them as such, so there will be no confusion. No American citizens, with dark complexions, and vaguely middle-eastern surnames will be harassed at airports, detained for no particular reason, nor be denied basic civil rights, because it's easy to tell who the bad guys are....

Then again, no German-Americans were herded into Concentration camps during WWII. Woe to anyone with epicanthical folds, though....

Yet there were massive deportations of expatriots of japan, and their american-born children. Something to do with skin colour, perhaps?

Do you really think they can make any sense of the oceans of unrelated data bits on 260 million Americans? They are more than likely drowning in irrelevancies. A signal-to-noise ratio of truly impressive proportions, that...

But lose sleep over it if you must. You'll be too tired to resist when we come for your library books...

Yes, I'm sure the residents of Nanking would have been horrified. Deportation, quotha!

Ah, ah, ah, fallacy of slippery slope.

Haven't noticed any moves in that direction, have we? In fact, hasn't all the momentum recently been going in the other direction, court-wise?

Permit me to suggest that perhaps, just perhaps, the sky is not really falling.

Of course--the only reason it has been going in the other direction court-wise, is because the momentum is pushing in that direction, administration-wise.....

But given the likelihood of change in the Supreme Court over the next four years.... perhaps nervously looking for a sturdy umbrella is not entirely out of order.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of those noble, wise, intelligent fighters for Truth, Justice and the American Way---the ACLU?
