They're Filming a Movie in Detroit!

I thought I'd share this with the fencing.net gang, since I thought it was so cool. Right outside my building here in Detroit, and on the surrounding streets, they've been building sets for the past 2 weeks for a movie called "The Island" with Ewan McGregor, Steve Buscemi, and Scarlett Johansson. Although he's not listed on the IMDB cast notes, Michael Clarke Duncan has been seen around, too. The plotline from IMDB: A man (Ewan McGregor) goes on the run after he discovers that he is actually a "harvested being", and is being kept along with others in a utopian facility.

I'll be posting my pictures soon, too, and will update the post with a link. Today, they've been filming street shots, and they've got a big group of cars that keeps driving back and forth on the street. Ewan McGregor's chair is around the corner on Shelby Street (I'm on Fort Street & Griswold), with Scarlett Johansson's chair. I saw them at lunch by cutting through a building and going out the other side to the blocked street. Got busted and sent back into the building. Brush with fame!

those look like the same cars (just add some silver bits) that they used in Minority Report with Tom Cruise. (not those wall cars that go on buildings, but rather the kind he drives out to his ex wifes house.) At least I think they look similar...

There is some resemblence, but these are driving on the streets of Detroit. You should see the funky taxis! If I can get a good picture, I'll post it.

Well, today they rammed a big armored car into a cop car and tore it in half, twice! I have it on video and will try to figure out how to post it. My co-workers got great pictures of Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. I THINK I got some shots of McGregor shooting a big gun with a long barrell, but I'll have to upload the pictures and have a better look. My shots will get posted to the above shutterfly link sometime after the weekend.
