    Male Chest protectors in foil

Mister Rene Roch anounced that male chest protections are forbidden in men's foil. The European Junior Championships are taking place in Portugal (Espinho), and many fencers were preparing to use chest protectors, beacause under certain circunstances, the point bounces and the hit doesn't score. Now, according to what he said, only with medical prescription it will be possible to ware one. About lady's foil they, (FIE) are going to study a new type of protection.

Well, that settles that. I wonder if any of the coaches will start trying aggresively trying to find veterans with a medical prescription. I can just see the young fencers crying about how it wasn't fair because they had to fence the old guy with a pacemaker now. Lol, that will be an amusing development if its how it goes.

Here is the text of Monsieur Roche's letter. It does not forbid male chest proctectors. Rather, it states that such hard surface protectors may not be worn between the lame and the jacket:

    Ladies and Gentlemen
    Urgent letter 21-04
    28 October 2004,
    I. Fencing clothing
The FIE has been informed by an Austrian club of the occurrence of
some speculative practices in response to the application at foil of the
new contact timings for the judging apparatus.
After consulting the SEMI, the Executive Committee has decided
to forbid fencers from putting any hard surface directly
underneath the lamé jacket (conductive over-jacket) and on top
    of the fencing jacket.
The Rules specify, in Article m.25, that “Ladies' equipment must,
furthermore, include, in the jacket, breast protectors made of metal or
some other rigid material". Obviously this Article is only applicable to
    women.

Well, that makes sense. I don't think it's good to put something between the lame and the jacket. That's a safety issue. But, just underneath the jacket, I think that's fine. And so I will be purchasing one for myself pretty soon.

Or maybe I'll wear a women's protector. Gives me a nice figure, too.

Where is the bit about the medical prescription? referred to in tomanepb's post? Did he get his info from somewhere else?
I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing!
