[CFML] The Flick
Dear List Members,
For those who do not follow the modern sport of fencing, please be informed
that the "flick" no longer exists. A change in equipment has made it
impossible to score with the "flick." This is certainly a step in the right
direction and credit must be given to the USFA and FIE for taking this
direction.
Respectfully,
Brian House

Re: [CFML] The Flick
Ah, but the difference between sport and classical fencing arises from
more than just the flick. It lies in a dynamic discursive power
relationship that has evolved over the past 100 years, with its roots in
privileged bodily knowledge, the rise of agonistic systems of sport
informed by nationalistic agendas, and the implied enforced conformity to
the resulting defining vocabulary that this Foucauldian power system
implies.
