This was something shared with me years ago. I'd like to pass it on to our writers in Fantasyland.
"In the Celtic tradition, there is a beautiful understanding of love and friendship. One of the fancinating ideas here is the idea of soul-love: the old Gaelic term for this is ANAM CARA. Anam is the Gaelic word for soul and Cara is the word for friend. In the early Celtic church, a person who acted as a teacher, companion,or spiritual guide was called an ANAM CARA. It originally referred to someone to whom you confessed, revealing the hidden intimacies of your life." Quote from Anam Cara
"In many ways over the years a few of us have done this through our relationship we've developed with our fictional writing. I know that i have felt that bond with a few of you"
arcon
anam cara continued:
"With the ANAM CARA you could share your inner-most self, your mind and your heart. This friendship was an act of recognition and belonging. When you had an ANAM CARA,your friendship cut across all convention, morality, and category. Your were joined in an ancient and eternal way with the friend of your soul. The Celtic understanding did not set limitations of space or time on the soul."
"Personally, I felt this connection with Lochinvar. It was good to have him back ...even for a moment." arcon
anam cara continued
"In eveyones life there is a great need for an ANAM CARA, a soul friend."
"When you are understood you are at home. Understanding nourishes belonging."
"All of us should attempt to understand each other better. It doesnt mean we are all meant to be as an "anam cara". The atmosphere we create here when we write has a lot to do with our results. The sky is the limit when there is peace." Arcon
Moon has her husband.
I have Crin, Roz, Darion, and Zelda.
Roz and Darion have each other.
Zelda has me.
Crin has Miri, and Miri likewise.
I think we're doing alright as far as "anam cara" goes.

Arcon, are you talking about characters, or writers?

Arcon I consider myself on good standing with everyone in FL and I feel like I know everyone personally (all except you because you never actually shared anything personal). They're all my friends, with Rose being just a tad bit (<<<massive sarcasm there) more important to me.
As far as character wise, I don't think that's much of a problem either, all the relationships already listed pretty much speak for themselves. The problem we had was lack of adequate communication and a bit of foul play by many parties in more ways than one. I want to start writing again when everyone's ready. I think many of us are past the stage where we thought Arconia was not coming back. I kinda miss this place.

Maybe i can answer Swords question and respond to your post(Darion)in this one reply. I will try.
It is unrealistic to think or believe that all of us can or will develope an "anam cara" relationship with each other. I know that i have found it here among a few. Ive been told that others have found it. I dont believe that any of us came to the site expecting to find serious relationships or make close friends. I dont believe any of us came here looking for it. I believe that during the course of our fictional adventure that close bonds we're formed.
I have shared some personal things with writers on the site. Most of us know why Dennis(Lochinvar)left us. It was a very serious personal issue. I know some personal aspects of his life because we shared them with each other. It was through our writing relationship that we developed the trust to share these things.
Mary(Moon)and I have shared a close relationship. I remember when she was having her baby(real life). We were all excited for her. Moon and I have survived some very difficult times. We've had our share of misunderstandings but our love and passion for this site(fantasyland/arconia) has been the glue that held us together. She is a true Anam Cara for me on this site. Thanks my beloved Scribe.
Zelda and I, have had a good relationship. Its needs work presently and I have made the effort to improve it. She has been a rock for this site and truely has a passion for what we do.
wannabe...You and i go way back too. Remember who first welcomed you?All you had to do was hang in there. You did, and look how far youve come.
Sword, I would like us to have a better understanding of each other. Id like
to try and put the past behind us. I cannot say if this is an absolute possibility but i can honestly tell you that i want it to be.
Yes, Darion we know very little about each other personally. It was not my intention not to get to know you. I made decisions(good or bad) that removed me from the center of things. My message here with this Anam Cara thread is simply to present the idea and the need for all of us to try and understand each other better so that our adventure may continue. LIke i said at the beginning ,all of us are not going to be "soul friends" ...but i do believe that its these types of relationships that will ultimately keep us together and my hope is that we can influence the others to partisipate with a renewed air of respect ,inspiration and compassion for each other and our common "soul friend" (fantasyland/arconia).
I miss it too, Darion.
good day
arcon
P.s. Try and have faith Moon (change) could happen!
Just as all of us have the power in a keystroke to create "soul friends" in fiction we have the power with our hearts and minds to keep Arconia alive.
Can the dream survive the dreamers? I guess we will see.
For myself, I wouldn't mind coming back with a new character if I could ease in somewhere without having to digest the entire backstory. It's a little formidable, however, to try to backread the whole "War and Dragons" saga, especially in its current episodic format.
I think it was easier for new writers to merge in when the storyline was looser. Perhaps something could be started back in the city while the others are on expedition...a "meanwhile, back at the ranch" sort of thing.

Grrr..I hit edit instead of "quote"...Anyway...
Moon's been bored, dear friend, so I think she'd welcome the company...& excitement. Though I don't think Moon the Writer would be able to start something at this time. I've got two weeks (give or take) to finish editing my own novel before I begin a proofreading project for a friend.

If we begin again Moon, i see no need to rush. When i contacted Latenight he indicated to me that he would consider coming back if things could be fun again. For some its just not as serious as it is for others. Personally, i like to have fun with it and im also very interested in the prospect of its publication (arconia Saga).
Latenight is waiting to see how things "shake out" as he put it.
I propose that we set a date to begin again. If we should arrive at this date and the desire is just not there ...then so be it. If we decide to start earlier, then we will.
In the spirit of the Holiday season I propose Dec 25th 2004
Im currently waiting on input from our Queen before making (my )final decision.
Arcon is currently either dead or passed out after meeting his father who(is this who or whom) he thought was deceased.
Anyone who feels they have differences with me that prevent them from writing, speak up that they may be reconciled, at least to a point that all can write.

The only thing I disagree with is a specific date to start. Example, I wont be here Christmas day.
how about a general time frame? The whole month of december or january or just sometime after Christmas or beginning of summer. etc
