    Lets get along

The election is a week away, and I honestly think that nothing done by anyone can change the inevetible result, whatever that may be. I propose, that for the next week, we all act nice to eachother in this form, and focus on the more positive aspects of our country. I am so goddam sick of the bickering from both two sides and all of the minor ones as well, and I bet most of you are too. No one in here is really undecided, you won't change anybody's mind at this stage, so why not enjoy the last week before the election with little strife?

(Easy for me to say 'cause my candidate has no hope of winning, eh?)
"In offering to you, my countrymen, these counsels... But, if I may even flatter myself, that they may be productive of some partial benefit, some occasional good; that they may now and then recur to moderate the fury of party spirit, to warn against the mischiefs of foreign intrigue, to guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism; this hope will be a full recompense for the solicitude for your welfare, by which they have been dictated." - George Washington

Seriously. With the minority opinion, you have the most to loose.

But I'm really so sick and tired of it all. Its been over a year I've had to listen to everything, right now I'm going to call it a year and forget about it until the 2nd. I know - Crazy concept, a week without arguing - But I really think it would benefit the country as a whole, and us in particular.

You say that it is a custom, but you should be mindful that the Lord said "I am the truth and life." (Jn. 14:6) He did not say "I am the custom," but "the truth." - Ivo of Chartres (1040-1115)

For myself, I enjoy the arguing/debating. It allows me to test the truth or untruth of my arguments. I bear none on this forum any ill will for holding their own opinions, even though they be contrary to mine. I consider this a virtual pub where friends, not necessarily of like mind, meet to discuss issues great and small, without having to decide who pays for the next round. I understand what you mean when things appear to get nasty, but usually if called on it the offending parties realize their mistake and quickly apologize. Besides if we weren't online, what would we do...fence?

Heh, a fencer who is sick and tired of contending? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Anyway, I think it'd be nice if we could avoid calling each other numbskulls or worse, and quit pointing fingers at the respective candidates and saying "See? This proves he's a rat bastard!" But if we stop arguing altogether the only sound left to be heard around here is the chirping of virtual crickets and the soft hiss of electronic tumbleweeds rolling through the forum...

Yes. Libertarians are free to find out about these things on their own! There are no memos!

There is a distinct possibility that it will come down to Florida again. It's a very likely scenario.

Yes, the state with the electronic voting and NO RECOUNT. Agggh, this shows why we have to elect smart people to decide things like "electronic voting machines are a BAD idea". *Bangs head on keyboard*.
