Array Leon Paul opens usa operations! www.leonpaulusa.com
Just saw this on the main page.
What awesome news! "I live my life a bout at a time. Nothing else matters. Not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bulls***. For those 15 touches or less, I am free." -
Two weeks too late for me but maybe next time. Saying that it came in 10 days but no free shipping. . This section is quite nice : http://www.leonpaulusa.com/fencing/armoury/epee.htm -

Array Cool. I guess.
It seems pricey though. Free shipping and no mark up are great, but I can still get Uhlmann FIE cheaper at The Fencing Post, and if I preferred LP blades, I could get them cheaper there as well.

Array Huzzah! and fencing101.com is the official american forum, it seems. Everything except blades seems more or less reasonably priced. Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo,

Array I love leon paul stuff, they are probably my favorite manufacturer. But, what exactly does free shipping mean? And no markup?
Because if you look at the prices from their regular site, vs leonpaul USA, use the converter to convert pounds to dollars, there seems to be a difference in prices - which leads me to believe that shipping is not free, but actually built into the price. And it's a lot of shipping. Looking at the Competition 350n jacket and pants, for example, I see that ordering in the USA is about $20 more expensive for each item. -

They are a class act, though. And I agree with Mac1 about the epee page -- the animation wonderful: http://www.leonpaulusa.com/fencing/armoury/epee.htm -

Array Time to spend the retirement fund. I think LP stuff is generally pertty good. I wonder what the customer service will be like in comparison to the UK original. Heaven is where the police are British, the chefs Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and its all organized by the Swiss. Array They need some additional bandwidth. Kind of clunky right now getting around.

Array I agree that it's quite pricey. You just can't beat LP for quality and durability though. -

Array Can you phone order from them? Meh parents will not put their credit card on the internet, and I would just LOVE some leonpaul stuff, but I dont buy overseas. Array Leon Paul USA and Fencing.Net Saw these posts and have time to respond now.
Ever since Barry had started an advertising arrangement with Fencing.Net, we had talked off and on about creating a site specifically targeted at the US fencing market. Leon Paul is the only major manufacturer without a US presence, yet Leon Paul consistently scores very highly in customer service, durability, and overall satisfaction based on surveys that I've conducted at Fencing.Net.
We launched Leon Paul USA as a site to serve the US fencing market. We're starting it off small right now, so no walk in shop and only online ordering to start. I'll be working to expand that to include phone orders when it makes sense to do so.
One of the biggest questions that has come up seems to be pricing.
I took a quick comparison of other vendors that stock Leon Paul blades and where they have the blades priced. Bare blades are priced within a few dollars of the Leon Paul USA site, some with LP being a couple dollars more, some with LP-USA coming in as the least expensive. The biggest variations are in wired weapons, but I suspect that the difference in components is a big factor there. The LP-USA weapons are all wired with genuine Leon Paul parts, not copies or French points.
As to the Leon Paul vs. Leon Paul USA pricing, we made the decision to set initial pricing so that a US customer would be paying the same as a walk in UK customer, plus we included shipping as a bonus. (Shipping on UK orders has been steady at about 19% of the order value over the past year.)
If you have other questions, feel free to contact me with them.
One final note - Just to head off any fears in advance: I will in no way be altering the Product Reviews section, nor will I do anything about equipment discussions. This site and forum was set up to benefit fencing, and one of the big benefits is learning the ins and outs of equipment choices from experienced fencers.
Cheers,
Craig -

May want to check some of the prices... When browsing around I did see some of the prices in show in Pounds Sterling (£). I think the price is right, but I did find this under the choice of pads when building a complete electric foil. Now if I could just justify $150+ for a FIE setup. Not sure how I feel about having the Union Jack on all my gear either. Regardless, thanks to Craig and LeonPaul for bringing up a US site and I hope Craig got some killer prices on some new gear. -

We took the UK price plus VAT and made that the US price, plus we included shipping as a bonus.
This has me scratching my head. Why have US customers paying the VAT which European vendors do not charge us? -

Hi all,
Just thought I would clear up few things.
You pay the same price for our goods from the Leon Paul USA website as our customers in the UK pay. For example, on a 350N club range jacket our price to a UK customer is £67.21 which is equal to $123.65 ie the same price as Craig’s Leon Paul USA store but from Leon Paul USA customer would get free shipping.
If you look at other brands from Europe for example Allstar and PBT they all refuse to send goods direct to countries where they have "exclusive distributors" which includes the USA, UK, France etc.... They do this to maintain price differentials between different countries and as I am sure you are all aware as US and Canadian customers you pay between 20 and 40% more than customers in their home countries (even in France which is just over the border from Germany they pay 17% more for Allstar equipment than they do in Germany). Leon Paul have never refused to supply anyone direct from the UK and have no intention to stop selling direct. We are confident that Craig and his Leon Paul USA store will offer US and Canadian customers a BETTER SERVICE at a BETTER PRICE then the main Leon Paul UK webstore. As US or Canadian customers the main advantages you will have by ordering from his Leon Paul USA site are:
- FREE shipping (on the average order to the USA over the last 1 year from the main UK website shipping has been 19.5% of order value).
- A USA returns address in case there are problems with the sizing etc…
- Pricing and billing in $ (at the moment if you buy from the UK store you will be charged and invoiced in £ and so you may not pay the $ amount that you had expected).
- Order tracking both on his Leon Paul USA site and on the couriers site after despatch AND an e mail and tracking number as the goods are despatched.
Feel free to use whichever site you prefer to order your Leon Paul kit, we are sure that you will be delighted with the quality of goods and service from either website!

Reason: Re phrased the section on "exclusive distributors" in line with subsequent posts

Can I just back up Craigs remarks regarding the product reviews. Some of the most useful feed back has been from remarks often not complimentary about certain Leon Paul products which has helped us change and improve them or in some cases explain what is considered by a fencer to be a design weakness what is in fact a essential design feacture.
