Hello again

Okay, so I am sort of new and sort of not. I first signed up for the site about 2-ish years ago and only recently rediscovered it.

I've been fencing now for almost 16 years and am coaching at Goucher college in Towson, MD.

I've not competed since about...2001 when I suffered a series of knee injuries, but I'd like to get back into competition. This may be a silly question, but does anyone know if a list exists of current weapon and equipment specifications?

That's a nice way of saying "Do I have to buy all new gear or will my existing equipment suffice?"

Thanks!
Rudi

If your old gear is in good shape, you should have all the stuff necessary. Equipment requirements haven't really changed in the last 2-3 years, particularly at the local level.

Mandatory:
+Plastron
+Jacket
+Lame - no dead spots
+Knickers
+Socks
+2 body cords
+2 weapons - must be able to support 500g weight, 6 inches of tape from point +back
+helmet
+glove

FIE rated gear still not required for USFA comps
Helmet must pass visual inspection for integrity of mesh and a punch test
Body cords no more than 4ohms resistance? (check this)
Blade of foil no more than 1cm bend.

That should get you by.

Excellent, thanks.

Even better because saber is my primary weapon. I don't have to worry about tape.

Ohhhhh, sabre... that's a different story. You have to buy all new equipment so that you look like a futuristic stormtrooper. Don't worry, shouldn't run you more than $1,200 or so.

Just kidding, I'm not a sabre fencer. I think you may have to buy a new overglove. I'm sure someone else will be able to fill you in.

That depends on whether or not it still works. As far as I know, there haven't been any major changes in sabre equipment in the last 3 years. My guess is that your lamé isn't in great shape, but you just have to test it.
