Agree wrong forum, but also wrong answer. If you compare with a French yes, Italian no. The pistol grip was a compromise between the 2. French was more for speed and Italian for strength. Each type of grip works to combine the 2 in a different way.

The vast majority of us use pistol grip nowadays. But I still occasionally use a french grip in practice to correct the bad things I learned using a pistol grip such as exuberant flicking.
