| I guess it's more time on the treadmill for me. Cardio training is too important when fencing at a Mile High. |

| Well, Denver isn't as good for me as, say, Palm Springs. But it's a darned sight closer than the east coast! |

| I'm contemplating taking Amtrak to Denver. It's $85/each way from Oakland CA to Denver. Takes 32 hours so I have to leave a day earlier (and return a day later). But no TSA! (At least, I hope... depends on who's eventually elected, I guess.)

| HOLY GOD! I actually live below sea-level... I don't know how I'm gonna be able to pull off fencing in the mile high city.
Then again for those that don't know Atlanta is actually one of the highest metropolises (metropolii?) in the country so maybe it won't be that bad.

| What has been said about the "Mile High City", got me remembering my time there. Do you know what they call Denver in the city of the USFA?
"Down in the Valley". From Colorado Springs you have to go down!

| Hmmmm....no sales dates schedules that weekend...I may actually try and go for at least the Vet's sabre.
I know the rules have changed for qualifiers, but for the Div II & III, do I have to qualify, or just have the approiate classification? I'm a U again... |

The rules (page 1-5, g) in the Atheletes handbook, states you must be a D, E or U at the time of processing. Now the gray area, if you mailed today and you earned your C tomorrow. They will not have processed your entry until Monday at the earliest, but in the same vein, they will probably get your entry, before they get your new rating. Anyone, want to comment on that can-of-worms.

| That depends if I get picked. You have to consider the number of Armorers that work a tournament and the number of referees and the requirement for the referees be from diverse areas. There are a lot of good Armorers on the East Coast. I would like to go, I haven't seen most of the members of the U.S. Team and Wheelchair for too long.
There is another reason I would like to go and that is the 0 and 2 blade. If I do go, I may bring some special blades marked with a 0 or a 2 and see if they are allowed.

I'm looking to become an apprentice armorer at the NAC. The nearest armorers to me are Rudy Volkmann and Bill Murphy, and both of them live a good drive away.

| Regarding the elevation in Denver, I fenced in Boulder earlier this year and did not notice any substantial ill effects. YMMV. |

| Working out at Coaches College (in Colorado Springs, roughly 1,000 feet higher than Denver) I didn't even notice any problems with getting enough oxygen. Granted it wasn't competition, but I didn't notice any effects during any activities. Well, unless you count the low humidity allowing things to dry quickly.

| I spent a couple of months in the Springs about 2 years ago. Day 1 I noticed ill effects just trying to walk up the stairs. I think it varies very much from person to person how much the elevation will affect you. Knowing that it takes me at least 2 days to get used to the elevation, I am going to try and make it to Denver 2 days before my event. |

| I've been in a couple of tournaments in Colorado Springs in addition to Coaches College, and a few people did have unexpected problems with the altitude. Since I never can get enough oxygen (I have asthma), it was nothing out of the ordinary for me.
