touche salesman. how about this as an addendum to my previous theorey:

movement = alive dog
gunshot = missed, scared it off
found body = dead mate of alive dog

and when i say dog, i mean unexplicable beast

I still would think the dead "dog" must have had a gunshot wound, but I supose anything is possible. It could have been shot previously. I mean we are talking about Devil Dog, Hound from Hell here.
