Fairly New to Fencing

Hi, I'm currently a junior in high school and I recently took up fencing during the spring, but due to complications with my fencing instructor and my schedule I have not been able to go to any lessons for the past 3 months. I started with foil but now I do not know which weapon is right for me. Someone suggested to me that because of my size (6'2'') I should start with epee. They also suggested
epee over sabre or foil because I have started so late in fencing and that learning epee would be a quicker process. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

You probably would learn the weapon you enjoy the most, fastest, simply because there would be more motivation to keep up with it. I think most people begin with foil before being drawn the the Dark Side(s) at least thats the case in my salle. I don't think of height as really a criteria / advantage / disadvantage in any weapon, as I have been thoroughly defeated by opponents of all shapes and sizes as well as escaping with victory from people from all walks of life.

Choose your own weapon, ignore your height and time of starting. But it is true that you're more likely to be good at épée when you're tall.

Be careful where you poke. You never know what's in the dark.

Welcome! And as for chosing a weapon, make your own choice. Try them all and then decide. Things like height can be used as an advantage in any weapon so don't let people use these factors to make your decision. Your weapon will find you.
