I was wearing a fenicng.net t-shirt though, so I was the banner. It attracted one really hot chick, who thought that being the fencing.net bastard child was kinda cool.

| just that it lasted for friggen ever. i left around 7ish and they were just getting into DE's. prolly one of the dumbest things, putting mens foil that late. its always one of the biggest events, why not have the early registration as always?

| Foil time warp I fenced D2MF and, like many others, found myself asking "what in gods name did they do to foil?!?!?!"
My coach summed it up very nicely when he said that foil has effectively been returned to 1970 style fencing. Lots of one light actions, flicks are useless, FAR TOO MANY hits are being invalidated by the new debounce time. It was quickly discovered that wearing a chest protector can make it hell for your opponent to get a point to stick long enough to score. In 6 pool bouts and two DEs, I lost track of how many times I hit but the debounce time screwed me (note for those reading: I tend to use straight actions most of the time, not flicks).
Those of you who wanted more classical foil and wanted the flick gone have got your wish. It's been relegated to a rare thing done by those with very good timing and even then, it's very risky. Foil is about 2 steps away from being epee.
Overall I'm sorry to say I don't like it. I don't really mind flicks being out, but the debounce time thing SUCKS. Edit: grammar/structure

| and the target covering??? In addition to the bouncing off chest shields- the incessant opponent hugging resulting in the covering of target with the unarmed-arm - even for those of us without the habit of normally doing it. Here's the action-
attack - bounce - look at box, hmmm - go closer, bounce - listen for box, hmmm- get as close as you can to your opponent chat about the weather while hugging and remising until something goes off -
REAL nice for spectators. |

| Does wearing a chest protector in epee have the same effect? (making a touch harder to score) |

| Might work if you wear the chest protector around your forearm. Most flick-type hits in epee are to the arm or shoulders and possibly the back (why, I don't know). Rarely does one get flick-type hits to the chest. Most chest shots occur while the opponent is stepping back, which helps keep the point from bouncing off too fast.
So if one were to wear a chest protector, the tactic is to STEP IN to the opponent's attack to the chest and hope it will bounce off too quickly.
I don't know what the contact time is for epee. If it's very brief, then it might not matter.
But we also have, to some degree, experience with mask hits in epee. Most mask hits do score, so that would indicate that hits to hard surfaces will register.

| But the mask is perpendicular to the blade as compared to a flick where some of the force is diffused in the arching of the blade.

With an exceptional external resistance of 100 ohms the apparatus must still register a hit, but without any specific duration of contact.
The apparatus must not register signals of less than 2 milliseconds duration. |
