So who won the second presidential debate???
So who won the second presidential debate???

I will have to say though, that the best laugh came from Bush when they were talking about small businesses and '"his" lumber company.
"Want some wood?" definately takes the cake.

Boy, Bush's quote: if you look on the internets" was a classic though.
I thought Bush came off as far to harsh in the dabate. At times he seemed almost to be yelling at the people in the audience. Kerry, on the other hand, presented a much cooler front, sticking to his guns and citing a considerable amount of evidence in each of his arguments. Not as convincing a win as the first debate, but still, a nice one for Kerry.

Bush speaks in a defensive tone all the time. Like he is a little boy trying to get out of trouble.
Real problem with these debates is the two candidates are in completely different leagues. It's like Grandpa arguing with Sonny over who's better: the Red Sox or the Texas Rangers. No contest. Of course it's the Red Sox, the facts are there in history. But Sonny won't let up and starts to whine.
Ah yes, and the part where kerry stuttered on a statement about stem cells "der...duh....er...um" was so eloquant? Bush's "Internets" statement was hilarious.
I think it was a tie, but I also think most people here are too partisan to realize that. All of the debates have been close, including the first, and after hearing some of them I actually like the Bush/Cheney ticket more than I did going in. I'd still prefer Badnarik win, but some of their statements are starting to make me think that they might be better than kerry by enough of a margin to be worth a vote.
The above poll does seem to break down rather cleanly along previously established political lines.
Where's the option for "I was too drunk to know what was going on, but it made for a damned good laugh?" - that's what I want to vote for!
Ahh, college, where mistakes are plentiful and the world is insular.
Hi!
Yes, but there is another thing to notice - Kerry seems to have considerably more support here on fencing101 than he has in the general population. Any idea why? This may be the only political question on which Inq and MMari actually agree, what do I know.Originally Posted by telkanuru

It appears that, other than a handful of little polls, he has the support of everyone else.

I have only seen the first half so far; the rest must wait until after I get home from the Long Beach tournament. ( I am in San Diego at the moment. )
I've got it on tape---how sadly wonkish is that, I ask you?
My first impression was that Bush "won" this one, unless he stumbled dreadfully in the second hour. Kerry seemed much less focused than he did for the first debate, and of course the questions to both men were tougher, coming from "real" people not deferring to the candidates' comfort levels. Bush seems to cope with those better.
I find it amusingly interesting that the only poll showing bush even close to kerry is the Fox news poll. Ach, foolishness!Originally Posted by SOA9286

Actually, there's a Rasmussen poll showing Bush at 49% and Kerry at 45%...

And from http://www.electoral-vote.com/
"Zogby did a large (N = 1216) telephone poll Oct. 7-9 (thus, after the second presidential debate) and found the race to be a statistical tie, with Kerry at 46%, Bush at 45%..."
I haven't heard about the Rasmussen one yet, but Gallup, CNN/AP, and Zogby have all done large telephone surveys in the last few days that show the two candidates well within the margin of error.
If I remember right, the polls that SOA9286 posted are online volunteer respnse surveys, which would almost by default give Kerry the advantage.
