jimbo | Why is everything a conspiracy??
Does the USFA have to publish it's intent for everything it does so that every fencer can add their 2 cents?
Just because someone pays 50 bucks a year for being a member of the USFA does not mean that you are on the board.
All this anti USFA stuff is getting tiresome.
I know that as a division officer it is SOO difficult to get anything done. Everyone wants things their way or the highway. The USFA has that many times over.
Due to the success of the women sabrists and the USA Team in general at the Olympics, there has to be a ton of new issues on the agenda for the USFA. It is exciting.
Think about it.

| Um, that read kindof defensively. Granted the original post seemed very ambitiously inquisitive, I didn't read anything I would interpret as the accusational presence of a conspiracy theory, and certainly didn't see anything that could be construed as anti-USFA. I'm kindof curious as to what went on at this meeting too.

| Umm, I don't think that it was a "secret" meeting; I think that it is in fact quite normal for an Association to have a National Coaches meeting and that the logical time and place to have such a meeting would be at a NAC where all the National Coaches would be conveniently located. In addition, there are many other committees of the USFA that also hold meetings from time to time (i.e. tournament committee, RYC committee, etc...) are all these meetings also "secret" just because the people involved on these committees are the only ones notified of a meeting?
If you want to know who these people are, please go to the USFA website and click on the link where it gives you contact information for the National Coaches.
Presumably, the point of the meeting would be to discuss amongst the National Coaches concerns that they would need to address vis a vis their position -- coordinating of weapon programs, training camps, budgets, USFA policies for teams, finalizing the desginated World Cups, etc....
Why would you presume that issues weren't resolved at this meeting? In fact, can you please identify what specific issues you think are not getting resolved that you are so concerned about? Quote: |

| come on people...
I just joined the youth development committee. I am trying to find out when our own meeting is going to be, but we are planning to meet because it is a time when many committee members will be in the same place at the same time. I am certain that is why the FOC members are meeting as well. Don't they try to meet at most NACs?
Well, I better go for now. I have secret agendas to... ummmm, never mind. |

| How can it be secret if all the National Coaches know? Unless you are a National Coach and not invited, there is no need for you to know about their meetings. |

| For anyone who interested in what went on here is a report: http://www.pcsfencing.com/governance...s/board04.html
Note it is by Paul Soter, last year's men's national epee coach
and if you know Mr. Soter you know to take his comments with
a pinch of something.

| I don't know what all the mystery is about...here are the minutes of the meeting, as posted on the USFA website in the documents section: Stenographic Transcript, National Coaches meeting. Recorded at the Ramada Inn RoJo Room, downtown Atlanta, 10/8/04 at 9:35 p.m. 7 in attendance: Men’s and Women’s Epee, Foil and Saber coaches (noted as: ME, WE, MF, WF, WS, MS), plus one unidentified presiding USFA official, who was wearing a black cloak with deep, hooded cowl, noted as: UPO (All coaches are present at table, when UPO enters, and strikes large gong at head of table) Gong: Bongggggggggg. UPO: As it was before Evangelista, so shall it be beyond Mangiarotti. (All raise a director’s clipboards and ritually smack themselves on the forehead) All: Touche! UPO: This double super secret meeting of the National Weapon Coaches is engaged. Was the maskirovka successful? ME: Quite. The USFA rank and file believe that we are meeting over bad banquet food to discuss matters that will directly effect (stands up and leans over the table for emphasis) every…single…fencer…in the United States! (Laughter erupts around the room. Much hilarity ensues) UPO: Let the banquet be brought forth. (Liveried waiters flown in on the Concorde from Lithuania begin distributing the meal. Numerous plates of ALMAS Beluga caviar, white truffles and Wagyu beef are distributed around the table, accompanied by several magnums of Roederer Cristal Champagne. For dessert, internationally renowned pastry chef Franz Ziegler personally delivers and serves a 43-pound éclair laced with Louis XIII cognac.) WF: (rises with glass of ‘45 Chateau Rothschild in hand) I’d like to propose a… (Audible thunk as WF hits head on reproduction Spanish candelabra, and falls back into chair) MS: Now THAT’S a quick debounce time! (Much hilarity ensues) (UPO taps on vintage Waterford Crystal goblet to restore order) UPO: Gentlemen…please. Let us double advance to the crux of tonight’s convocation. (Table is cleared, and Pioneer PDP-501M Plasma Display HDTV monitor is wheeled in and connected to a bank of Wilson WAMM audio speakers) UPO: Behold! (HD-DVD of “BioDome”, starring Paulie Shore, is played to a rapt audience) (Much hilarity ensues) (Movie concludes, UPO strikes gong again) Gong: Bongggggggggg. UPO: (begins benediction) In the name of the Universal Parry, let no fleche go unscored… (scuffle erupts as MS and WS coaches have to be restrained from protesting) UPO: and may His Benevolence remain impotent---err--omnipotent! (all rhythmically smack foreheads with director’s clipboards) All: Roche, Roche, Roche! UPO: Meeting is adjourned. (There being no further business, all leave.)
