Boy I said that wrong ..."when his forte crosses your tip." What I should have said is when his foible crosses your tip. Can catch him at mid-blade with the foible, enough to move him out off line and leave room for a shot at his elbow. Keep the shoulder relaxed and pop up your elbow, nice tight spiral, just over his guard.

If he's coming really hard and fast, I like a little more distance so I can get in my tip back in line, I'm one of those old guys I need all the room I can get.

LP blades are very strong they are a good buy. Im currently using a Preur FIE, the date on the blade is 06/04. Its light but it recovers from the bends pretty good

I'm going to have to wait for someone to check it out. I'll prolly end up just giving them a general sum of $$ and move on, b/c I'd rather let them get what they want.

By running I should clarify, what he reallly likes to do is "step" run, it's incredibly bad form and looks just awful, but for one who can't really contest with his strength or aggressiveness, it works. I'm also shocked his point hasn't broken yet, for it always curves down (and we all know where that could lead!).

Thanks to all who have replied!

BTW, what's the going rate of blade breakage in epee?

FIE maraging blades generally last longer, but cost more. Keep your distance from the target and blades will last longer and you'll also improve your epee fencing.

Also, the old cliche...they don't make them like they used to applies...

My friend broke his sabre maraging blade on the very first point he fenced with it.

Tought him never to buy a maraging sabre blade again.
