Attack on preparation/parries. Opinions.

Attack on preparation:
1. Difficult to pull off because opponent can sense your shift in direction and lunge before you begin extention. Same thing used by marchers.
2. Only reliable against fast preparations where the opponent's arm is massiveley withdrawn and you can get in close to close out any hit from the opponent and therefore prevent any queston in the ref's mind.
Parries:
3. Should you throw out your parry at any plausible threat and then follow through with another parry, e.g. septime? In other words, employ combinations of parries, rather than trying to wait for the true threat.
4. Finally, how on earth can you try to distinguish between feint and real attack, without risking too much. Is it really worth trying to practice delaying the parry, and if so, how do you do it. Even Romankov sometimes got caught by delaying didn't he?

1) Huh? The other guy hesitates and he's open, you poke him. Zap, point for you. If you're giving him enough time to hit you first, perhaps there's something else you need to be doing.

2) On the contrary, they're good against any opponent who gets within striking distance. One of my favorite and most reliable ways of scoring, as a matter of fact.

3) If there's a plausible threat, i.e. it looks like the other guy's about to hit you, why wouldn't you block it or at least move out of the way? So what if he's trying to draw out a parry so he can do something else -- deal with it as it happens, take control of the situation and hit him.

4) Sometimes you can tell, sometimes you can't. See where he's looking -- most people look at their true target when they actually attack. Some people don't, but most do.

1. Depending on your opponent, it can be easy or difficult to pull off. When my opponent does wide preparation or have bad distance and so on, attack in preparation isn't too hard to pull off. However, when my opponent have excellent attacks and distance, it's much more difficult to pull off an attack in prep.
2. I find attack in prep to be very reliable against people who constantly have the same preparation which I can predict, so I can close it out next time, and also against people with bad distance who gets in close, then I can just tag them and run.
3. I'm currently working on doing different things and see what works best, can't answer this one now.
4. Given that my opponent isn't extremely horrible at feinting, many times I just rely on my instincts. I won't purposely try to figure out if my opponent is feinting or not. When I feel an actual threat, then I do something about it.
