    Mangiarotti tip

Please, where can I get some of the new Mangiarotti tips that are going to be required for foil?

    Cheers!

They're not going to be required. the rules have long since been passed for this season and that wasn't one of them.

The FIE never sent out specifications to the manufacturers, so none were made also. There were some demonstration ones made, but none for sale.

    thanks much

Thanks much guys, for that clarification. What or who should I be watching if I want to get them as soon as they are available to try it out?

Donald, in the minutes of one of the FIE meetings they mentioned Mr. Mangiarotti giving a demonstration of his point to the gathered delegates, which was met with applause. Have you heard anything about the effectiveness of this point design in reducing/eliminating flicks vs. the new 15ms debounce time?

All this new tip talk really scares the crap out of me. Mostly because it means I would have to buy new tips. I hope these new rules never go into effect about tips because that would be uber expensive for everyone to have to buy new stuff.

It's quite effective. I've held one of these tips in my hand--it uses two springs counter to each other to achieve about a 1cm travel before the tip registers. The weight is also 750g to 1kg instead of 500g. I believe the SEMI commission tested these tips several years ago and they are quite effective against flicks, even without modified timings in the scoring machine.

Actually it is 2mm of travel, twice the Epee travel.

1cm=10mm? That's rather a long travel considering that in epee it's just 1.5mm.

Edit: I just see Donald's correction that it is 2mm for the mp. That's makes more sense. Plus I got the travel wrong for epee, it is 1mm.

Lesson - don't post late at night when you are tired. It is indeed 2mm.

If you could use the same barrel, and just buy some new tips for them I don't think it would be that bad.

I don't think the same barrel would allow for the design of a mangiarotti tip, so the whole thing will change. Cost will obviously depend on how many blades you have (and whether a cartel artifically fixes the price).

On a connected note - I have heard it suggested that the new foil timings would work better with a longer travel on the point because you would not get straight hits affected in the way they seem to be with the old point.

And Epéecurean is probably based in the UK where it was not so late when he posted.
I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing!

I really dont want to pay anymore than I already have. I love fencing but as a graduate student it would really be a burden to have buy new tips points or anything extra. Also it basically would render all my spare stuff that I have purchased for armoring and other stuff as useless. I really hope the FIE realizes that not everyone can just whip out cash to buy new equipment

the idea of the new points has been completely scrapped.

there is just a timing change on the boxes to contend with now.
