so just think about that. | Are community colleges 'indecent' in some way? |

| Most people view them as the refuge for those who could not make it any higher, or were too lazy to. There is a definite stigma attached to them, right or wrong.
I mean, this is America after all. Land of the free! So go educate the hell out of yourself, dang it! If you don't grow up to become a rich lawyer with a Master's degree, you're a Communist. Or a Mexican. Maybe a communist Mexican.
Nope, can't have anybody settle for a simple education, maybe a two-year degree in a trade they really like...
Into the rat race, quick, quick! |

Into the rat race, quick, quick! | Says the dude that underwent the struggle to get into one of the military acadamies.

| I'm not here to get ahead in the rat-race. I'm Here To Fly Planes. (One of the alternative meanings of IHTFP.)
Seriously, I've simply always known that I'm meant to be an Air Force officer. Doesn't mean I'm in it to be a general, or climb the ranks, or anything like that. If I lead well and make a good difference, I'm happy. If rank comes with that, even better.
If I did not have this draw, I could quite easily see moving to a small town and taking up some kind of hands-on trade. Who needs college for that? |

| i was class valedictorian in my HS, it opened many many doors for me, and still does. Studying hard is a real pain, but worth every hour. I wish i had fenced in HS though it would have made a more complete person of me, however, I doubt i would have gotten a full ride to college, had I not put in all the work I did. So here is my two cents: opportunities dont come along everyday, grab them and make the best of them. It may take a bit of work to recognize HS as an oportunity, but if you put it in perspective, you will see that youre better off than at least 90% of the world's population, and that you have THE CHANCE to do something.
make of this what you will, but whatever you do. go for it. |

I was just irritated by the cheap elitism of those who feel entitled to Ivy League while complaining about having to learn to spell. |

| In regards to the eye thing, I have 20/20 vision in my right eye, and something around 20/70 in my left. I should get a monacle...
Hillbilly: I feel for you, man, I just got out of High School. They are tough years, but they are certainly an improvement from what has come before. One of the things that really make High School stand out is that it is where we choose who we will be. Not what we will be, or how we will be, but who.
For the first time, you are in an enviroment where your parents are not the center of your life. It can be tempting to do whatever you want, but that is a bad trap to fall into. As I'm writing this, I just found out today that one of my best friends from high school was arrested yesterday for stealing from the Sears he worked at. It's a difficult thing to watch.
I don't really know what I'm trying to say, but I guess it's this:
Don't define yourself just yet. Try and keep your options open as long as you can, and then make a choice. You might find that you really want to go to a four year liberal arts program, or you might want to join the military. Whatever you decide, make sure it's what you want to be doing with your life.

Sarah, how could one not admire a strong willed, intellegent, creative, selfreliant, independent woman such as yourself? |

| I have kind of a philisophical question here:
Is t better to be rich, and have power but only be content, or is it better to live "on the streets" and be completely happy at life? Which would you pick?

| Oh please, nobody is completely happy on the streets. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Usually people get into drugs and **** themselves up.

| There is a third option you know.
I am philosophy major, almost the defininion of "useless major." I know I will never make a whole lot of money, and will probably be in academia my whole life, but I think I can be happy dedicating my whole life to learning. In fact, according to both Confucious and Aristotle, learning was the highest actualization of humanity.
Of course, that's just me spouting off. Find something you will enjoy doing, and do it, regardless of the money involved.
Unless, of course, the thing is putting babies on spikes... might want to avoid that one...
