| So here it is, yet another when I was your age...which was not too long ago. The best advice I can give is to make the best of what you have.
I don’t think your parents should worry, as people grow and change so does their clothing. Although how someone dresses is important, I feel that’s true only in certain situations. It’s up to you to decide what situation call for what kind of clothes. Even in a situation when you should dress “normally”, there are still ways to show in your personality. Anyway, you shouldn’t have to worry about this for years to come, you’re still in high school, not looking for a professional job.
I’m not sure what you think of going to college, but it sounds like you are interested. I highly recommend college; it was the best years of my life. It was the first time I was able to be independent. I could wear what I want, do what I want, and so forth. From the moment I moved into the dorms I knew that I was going to love it there. My first year was also when I discovered fencing. I learned so much more then academics; I became who I was meant to be.
What I am trying to say is HS may be tough, but keep your eyes on the horizon and remember college(and freedom) is right around the corner. |

| Hillbilly, even when you are supposed to dress in a similar fashion to everyone else, you can still be yourself. When I was an attorney, I had to wear a suit, and I hate black. Hence my buying of green suits. I really don't care what I wear as long as it's comfortable. I enjoy wearing more mature outfits, such as suits and dresses, as well as more 'teenish' clothing such as shorts and a tank. Seriously, though, what does your outfit have to do with education? Don't you enjoy learning new things?

| Teen Court, I was an attorney, I took the course, I made a lot of cases, I won most lost some, and I got to dress up really nicely. People kept on asking me to cafes, and asked me which college I went to. (now these were all of the twenty to twenty-five age) And you know my age. I don't lie about it, I don't like lies.

| Oh, the SADNESS of it all!!! You are an individual...whether you like it or not. ("The HORROR, the HORROR.....") Get over it. Suck it up and listen to the "Inner Voice". Do what it tells you. It's not for nothing the "Voice of God" must be obeyed! ...or whatever you want to call it. Individuality walks away in it's OWN costume and NEVER looks back. The 1st Law of Power is, "Do what you will." The "will", "I intend...." Hello!!!!
Sarah's an Attorney? Oh, you BABE!!! |

And you'll stop being concerned about it and be all the better for having less to worry about.

I hardly ever wash my fencing equipment. I've had the same lame (grr can't type that word) all my life, and the same body-cord for that matter. The only stuff I replace is stuff that breaks.

| yep, I like to be clean because it makes me feel good. I couldn't care less what other people think (except for my family and my boyfriend but they don't count as people ) so I wear a gypsy skirt a lot and get strange looks... and other times I get berraged by people asking me where I buy my clothes. It's odd.

| I tend to shower...obssessively sometimes. I think that comes from the times we couldn't pay the water bill so there weren't showers. In the afternoon when I get home from school and am about to go to fencing I usually take a shower.

| Theres a difference between being a dirty lazy slob and expressing yourself.
It depends what you want from life. Sometimes, we need to dress as society expects (ie: suit and tie in court or at a job interview). I'd love to wear my track pants and moccosins everywhere, but, there comes a stage when you need to grow up.
Also, regarding steriotypes. I'm vision impaired and a law student - this poses several problems for me. As such, I can understand how you feel 'judged' and steriotyped merely on unfounded assumptions.
I cannot change my eyes. You CAN change your clothes. Unless you dress for some religous or political purpose/statement, you shouldent complain about being steriotyped. This is because you freely chose to be discriminated against. |

Depending on your vanity level, you can get contacts, lasik surgery, etc. You can even change the color of your eyes! But sometimes glasses can a plus depending on what you are trying to accomplish or the image you are trying to project.

| What I find interesting is something like 80-90% of people in the world have less than 20/20 vision.
