It' a long story ... but!

I had an eye operation (cornea transplant). Thought fencing was my only option because there was head/eye protection and the blades (foil) were flexible so hits to my head would not be hard. It was very safe, I enjoyed it and I purchased new equipment.

Then, at my club, I couldent find a lame that fit me! (theres more to the story but i'll leave it) Got a refund from my membership. Looked for a new FENCING club. Found a wing chun kung fu club , so, now im doing wing chun kung fu! (no contact).

I never did enjoy fencing as much as eastern martial arts.

I wrongly assumed fencing was my only option so I purchased some equipment. Nothing at all wrong with the equipment - brand spanking new!

    Thats it in a nutshell.

I never used the equipment because I couldent find a lame to wear and so never fenced.

Then I got disheartened and followed my interests to pursue eastern martial art once again. There is still some good skills to acquire in fencing that are transferrable to eastern martial art (kendo, iaido ... even some aspects of wing chun butterfly knife fighting)

I hope that answers your question.

That would be great - a wing chun kung fu guy with butterfly knives versus a foilist!

Sorry guys, I think the kung fu guy would win (you should see them move!). I can see the avalanche of opinions already!
