| 750 grams versus 500 :( Just curious on all your opinions about this. The new timings I dont mind so much, I can deal without having flicks (although I think it is silly to end it now after its been going on for 30 years) but adding the weight to 750 I think is ridiculous. The FIE is trying to make foil fencing into epee fencing.

Those two proposed changes have been tabled until the 2005 season when they will be re-considered. To see the SEMI explanation of the changes that were put through, go to SEMI Commission New Rules: Foil & Sabre.

| The difference between 500 and 750 is very little. The only things that will change are those hits where you are ALMOST out of distance, the ones you can't really feel.
Also, it doesn't make sense to me that foil should require less weight than épée; in many ways, foil trains you to duel to the death, while épé is to first blood. When you're going to kill someone, you have to hit them with quite a bit of force. |

| As mrbiggs, stated you would not notice the change. It was the design of the new tip that made the 750 gram required. That tip Required 2mm of travel.

| It appears I did not explain it understandably. The new designed tip, which is a completely new design and is nothing like the current tips, so if they require the new tips, the tips you have right now would not be allowed. They would require the 750 grams.
Since this new tip requirement has been dropped, there will be no 750 gram requirement.
