    Conductive T-shirt?

It is labeled as Conductive T-Shirt 'Wireless 2000' and is lumped in with the wireless sabre fencing equipment so I can only guess that it is used somehow for that system. Anyone know what this is for?

When they first started this, they would stap a wide belt around you for capatatance and was required to get it to work. This may be what they are doing to allow people to have their own machines.

The machines used by the FIE were not for sale.

    Donald,
This is what they have replaced the belt with.

The wireless system requires your body to be part of the circuit (in simple terms). This conductive material lined t-shirt is how the system makes contact with the body. One note, if you deside to buy this system, it will only work on sabre and you better get several t-shirts because the system malfunctions when the t-shirt becomes wet. At world cups they have to change shirts after every round of DEs.

If you decide to buy the system, you'll also need to explain to family and friends that the 3 Ukranian guys now living in your basement are the only ones allowed to handle it .

    Scott-

I take it from your post that the Estoc wireless system is now on the market?

    Dave,
It is in Europe. Still gathering money for the FCC beaurocrats here in the states. It is a shame because it is the only working three weapon wireless system in the world and the only thing I can do with it right now is show people...not for sale yet.

I hope it's more functional than it was at the austin nationals a couple years ago when it was completely random.

The issue with most wireless systems is the quality and condition of the equipment. At Austin there were some fencers who came up to try the wireless sabre with equipment that was not only soaking wet with sweat but of low quality. This did cause some anomilies in the scoring.
Since that time changes have been emplimented in the system to accomidate some of the lower quality lames and deal with the "sweatie fencer".

Battery life and charge time have also been addressed. Now the batteries will last for days and take only a few hours to recharge. As is with any new technology there is a period of adjustment for unforseen chalanges. I am confident that Estoc is doing everything possible to make this the future of wireless fencing.

As a historical note, the Ukranian wireless system is a copy of a much earlier design patented in the 1970s. The old system used a wrist bracelet instead of a conductive t-shirt--I've heard stories of fencers receiving burns from these bracelets. I'd think twice before wearing a charged conductive t-shirt!

Makes me wonder if any of these manufacturers have ever performed any safety tests...

How does your wireless system work? I've never seen or heard described the way a "real" wireless sytem works.
