| rule question is there anything in the USFA rules that says you have to fleche to a particular side of your opponent?? in other words after you fleche are you supposed to run past your opponent on a particular side (i.e. weapon hand side or free hand side)???? |

| It is customary to fleche past the unarmed side of the opponent.
I don't believe there is a specific rule about it.

Just don't run into your opponent.

This really hurts. An opponent of mine at the Fechmeisterschaft in Germany did this to me and tore many things in the front of my shoulder. I couldn't fence for a month.
Try to turn to the outside if you must turn. I wouldn't wish that injury on anyone. Do you know how many daily tasks you complete by reaching across your body? |

| I did the fleche to the weapon-arm side at Summer Nationals two years ago and my opponent closed me out & put his hand out toward six and caught me right in the face. I got the touch, a yellow card, and a bloddy nose out of it. I go to the non-weapon arm side now!
Just thought I would add my 2 cents
Cheers
See you in Atlanta |

| I prefer the weapon-arm side because it's harder for them to land a riposte if they manage to parry and it's also easier for me to remise. But after reading about what can happen,I think I'll think twice the next time I fleche. Thanks for the heads up |

| I've gotten a yellow card for fleching to the wrong side of my opponent before, but at a director's clinic I went to they assured me it wasn't a real rule and you could appeal it and get it overturned at the bout committee if the director claimed it was. |
