| I heard at Charlotte and again At Austin that the plan was to rotate east/central/west/central each year so no region got the shaft repeatedly.
They were looking for a north-central (Chicagolandish) site to alternate with Austin, but last I heard, had not found one.

| Although I no longer live in the Chicago area (and didn't fence while I did) i would like to see it held there. When driving from the airport I passed what would seem to be an ideal venue for a big tournament. I believe it was called the Rosemount Convention Center, it had hotelS attached, and was close to the airport. Unfortunately, I'm guessing that it would cost a lot to rent the space, but it seems like it would be worth at least looking into. Also it would be nice to have it somewhere in the Northeast (New York, Boston, or Philidelphia I guess).

| Chris, you're always padding the numbers. It's around 2500. Stryder computed 2248 or whatever, and I got an email from Michael Massik saying it's more than 2500. But it's no where near 3500.

Oooohhhh...fencing at the Staples Center! (Yeah, right. But what a dream, huh?)

| I would dearly love for it to be on the East Coast. I was SO disappointed when the Pennsylvania thing fell through. Not that I object to traveling, it's just that if all I'm going to see is the inside of a convention center I'd prefer not to pay quite so much to go there.

| Sam, I doubt the USFA has enough money to rent out Staples Center for 11 days (you need to include the set-up and tear-down days).
However, maybe the Long Beach Convention Center. It's a nice area. Could be pricey as well, though.
As for only seeing the inside of a convention center, it only happens if there isn't anything outside to see. King of Prussia (or wherever they were going to hold in in the Philly suburbs) would be such a dismal place. On the other hand, LA (even Long Beach) would have many pleasant places to go and see. Long Beach, in particular, has a very vibrant nightlife just blocks from the convention center. You get to check out all these plastic-faced people (mostly women, but really, how can one tell), have nice meals, dancing, etc.
Hawaii, as I've mentioned, has a great location. San Francisco is too expensive for the moment. We need a few more dot-coms to go bomb before the prices drop to something competitive to other cities.
Maybe Oregon area? Portland would be nice place to visit in the summer. I would also like to hike back to Florida. Tampa Bay this time? Ft Myers was too geriatric for me. Orlando was too...inland. Ft Lauderdale might be nice as well, but I prefer the western side. Nice to see sunsets into the water.

| Eric, you musta had a dull time of it when you were living in Philly. It's some people's favorite city (including mine) (though I agree King of Prussia would be on a par with, where was it that we were out in a mall somewhere? Pittsburgh? Though even that was better than Cleveland.)

| I had, er, a decent time in Philly when I was living there. The first two years were a shock, coming from an idyllic Santa Barbara (sun setting in the ocean, soft warm sand, clean, well-kept area) to a Mayor Goode inspired trash strike ridden ghetto (West Philly); the constant depressing facade of the brownstone buildings; the tension... When Rendell became mayor, it helped a bit, but I was gone then. Center City has a vibrant life, and I enjoyed it somewhat, but elsewhere...it's just depressing.

| Please not California or Texas again. Chicago would be a great location for summer nationals, it's a beautiful city with tons of things to see and do and the weather would be perfect in the summer. Plus, when's the last time there was a national tournament in the northern midwest?! Don't knock Cleveland either, it may not be pretty, but at least there's plenty to do in the surrounding area. I also think it's high time they choose Florida as a nationals location. The airfare is usually pretty cheap for the Orlando area and there are plenty of cheap hotels, lots of convention facilities, and of course lots of entertainment. |

| Unfortunately, when USFA mentions a big city like Chicago or Philadelphia, it usually mean
some small nearby town like Dalton or King of Prussia. Then, it's a two-hour drive by bus or shuttle from the airport, and there's nothing to do for miles around.
The mid-size cities are more realistic, like Sacramento or Austin. (If USFA holds it in "Dallas" it'll probably be in Denton.) So don't get your hopes up if it's scheduled at a big city. The last Chicago one that I can remember was the 1988 in Evanston. They got the gym for free provided they didn't use the air conditioning. People were wilting left and right, and that is not acceptable for a nationals.
Bore-lando is pretty dull outside of going to Disneyworld. And if you do, be prepared to shell out some buxxx.

| Well, the planning calendar is up on the USFA website and it's Greenville for the Summer Nationals so this year's discussion is moot. Is it going to be that long barn of a convention center? And heavens, that rather odd and antique motor inn as lodging?
We're back to some old faithfuls for the Div I NACs - Palm Springs, South Bend, Lousville. The only new venue I see is Sandy, UT for the Div II/III/Cadet in October.

| Well, it's a longer drive to Palm Springs, but if I happen to earn that "D"...that's one thing I liked about Ontario. Less than an hour to drive there, and no wind from Hell going through that one area of the 10.
And two Div II/IIIs out west! Yeehah! I can actually go!
Yeah, yeah...I could've easily gone to Overland Park, but there's that psyche factor of Nevada and Utah vs Kansas.

| Hmmm (looking at the USFA planning calendar for the 2001-02 season)... isn't there supposed to be a separate Elite National Championships from the Summer Nationals? When and where will that be, if it's supposed to be there?

| Edew- wasn't Dalton, IL the infamous "Kmart" nationals? That was before my time but I've heard the story.
Incidentally the Div2-3 in Sandy, UT will be in the same venue that JO's used. Which is a great venue, even if it is a little far from the airport. (about 20-30 minutes it's still beter than Monroeville, PA. $55 for a taxi is Ridiculous!)
Details will be (eventually) posted at www.extremefencing.org I'm sure.
