| There was one little error.
At a tournament in Italy in March, Zagunis lost to fellow American Sada Jacobson in the semifinals on the final touch, giving Jacobson the second spot on the Olympic team.
It would have been correct if it had said, " . . . giving Jacobson sister the second spot on the Olympic team."
I haven't had a chance to see any of the Olympics, did any one see her in the opening cerimonies.

| indeed, that part was not quite correct, but almost correct and very forgiveable because it made it much more comprehendible than explaining the actual system to the public. |

There are several universities that require a swim test. At UNC everyone must pass the swim test to graduate, but it's really easy: swim one lap (untimed) and tread water for 10 minutes.

The donor's child had drowned, so the requirement was that every student passing through the University had to be able to pass a basic swim test.

| That's too bad----the myth actually makes more sense than the reality!
I could understand such a test for the Naval Academy or the University of Venice.
I myself would not be able to pass it, unless they let you do the backstroke... |

| Another inaccuracy... "But when Nigeria's Jacqueline Esimaje decided not to compete in the Olympics, Zagunis got her spot because she was the highest ranked woman who hadn't already qualified."
It's amazing how history rewrites itself, isn't it...?
Jacqui did not decide not to compete (surely she would be institutionalised if she had!) - she was not allowed to compete by the Nigerian Federation (and rumour has it because the FIE put pressure on her to withdraw so that Zagunis could compete...).
Boo
(assuming that this must be similar to history which says that the Native Americans "cheerfully gave up all of their land to the settlers of North America"...) |
