Fencing in Milwaukee

Howdy All,

I'm considering a move to the Milwaukee area in the near future. Anyone got any recommendations/experience with Salles in the area? Thanks.

My club's pretty much the only game in town, aside from a couple of small university clubs. Info here. Mainly foil and sabre, not so many in the way of epeeists, however. Not a dedicated facility like Lone Star, but we do have a decent sized, open gym space with a suspended wood floor and on-site showers. It's a farily good area for competitions, since we're in easy driving distance of Chicago, Indiana, and most of the rest of the main fencing areas in the midwest. Shoot away with any questions you may have, either here, by p.m., or e-mail. If you're going to be at Sacramento, you can find me or Boris at the armory tables, and Misha will be there refereeing.

BTW, (re: your web page), are you sure you want to bring that Yamaha into the home-territory of Harley Davidson?

Thanks for the reply... I came across your web page listed under clubs as well. Hmmm, so I may have to consider changing weapons? OUCH!

LOL! It's funny that you mentioned my bike. I will be returning to my former employer, Miller Brewing Company, and HD is right across the street! I don't mind, I love my little V-star for the little bit o' money I spent and don't need any overpriced scooter to enjoy the ride any more! ;-)

Anyway, thanks for the info about your salle. I will definitely look you up when I get to town. BTW, I've noticed that some of the schools have fencing programs, like MSOE. Do you have to be a student to join their clubs?

For the Mosey club, I don't believe you have to be a student. I'm not sure about the requirements for the others. What's you're approx. timetable for making a trip here? You're more than welcome to stop by at a practice if come up house-hunting.

It could be as early as next week. I'll definitely bring my gear with me and look you up. Are the practice times listed on your web site still good? Thanks.

Yep, they're up-to-date. The week-by-week schedule (listing cancellations due to tournaments) needs to be updated, but the only upcoming tournament that will cause practice not to be held is on Sunday, June 24. Things will be a little catch-as-catch-can during Nationals, since so many of the regular staff will be in Sacramento and we'll be relying on members who can volunteer to open up for practice.

Thanks for the info. I wish I could join ya'll for nationals, but I'll wait until I've got a bit more experience under my belt.

Space Cowboy,
Agreed, Neevel's place (Caliburn) is the best in the Milwaukee area. For epee the next best thing is our club in Kenosha. We are an hour drive door to door from Caliburn, but if you ever find yourself in serious epee withdrawl come down to Kenosha and see us... Otherwise in Milwaukee, Neevel's place is par excelance. some of us have made the hour drive north just to fence with the best.
