It has to do with her apparent opinion that she is better than the rest of us and she should not be subject to the same penalties as the rest of us.

| On the other hand, if we are to believe the following quotes from her: Quote:
"Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," Hilton said in a statement posted on TMZ.com. "While I greatly appreciate the sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, after meeting with doctors I intend to serve my time as ordered by the judge."
"This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," she said in her Saturday statement. "During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to reflect, and have already learned a bitter, but important lesson from this experience."
| Perhaps she is beginning to learn that her social and financial status does not exempt her from the law.

Interesting that you should think so. I enjoy the occasional alcoholic beverage or three, have been driving for quite some time now, and can honestly say I've never driven after consuming alcohol. It's an attitude ingrained in me from flying planes since my youth and racing motorcycles: I just can't imagine getting behind the wheel without 100% of my faculties.
Which raises a question that has long perplexed me: what is the point of opening a bar in a place that people have to drive to get to? If I can't walk there or get there by public trans, it might as well not exist. (On the flip side, I cannot fathom why someone would drive somewhere to go drinking. And don't even get me started on the very thought of a "biker bar.")

That is a side-effect. Drinking at a bar is about socializing. Indeed, why would anyone spend money on gas to drive to a place where they will pay more to drink than if they did so at home unless there was something else that they were truly looking for? Bars are about social interaction. The alcohol is a means to an end.

| Most of the United States might as not well exist, then.

| I've been driving for almost 40 years and I have never, ever, even ONCE, driven while drunk. I confess to having driven a few times after taking allergey medication.
A for someone's earlier comment about two white women:
Nicole is of Caucasian, Black Creole and Mexican descent.
Her biological parents were Peter Michael Escovedo, a member of Lionel Richie's band, and an anonymous backstage assistant. |

Bars are about social interaction. The alcohol is a means to an end. | Just begging the question, though. Regardless of the reason for going to a bar, most people who go to bars get alcohol into their bloodstream. Alcohol in the bloodstream is not a desirable trait for someone operating a motor vehicle. The degree of irresponsibility increases with blood alcohol level, but that's only a difference of degree.

| Yes, indeed. Those, and my family being out there, are competing for the number one reason I miss Texas. I still haven't decided which one is the number one yet though.

It's SOP from what I've seen by noticing what others have done when they've been convicted.
I see Paris is up to number 2 and working her way towards 3. |

| Exactly.
With such petty crimes as hers, what gets you a more severe sentence is usually irking the judge somehow. Such as, by not demonstrating sufficient contrition, by trying to excuse yourself ( "It wasn't my fault" ) instead of taking responsibility and vowing to reform. Oh, and by showing up late, with an entourage.
Belatedly, it seems that her lawyer has talked some sense into her and has set her to doing what is expected of her. Even if she's only feigning it. Which the cynic in me is quite sure she is.

| Paris Fuming! Well, it is sort of a pain in the neck to read about, and so close to my birthday as well. The dissapointing thing is that I have applied to her Hotel about seven times and was de-selected from the final selection. It was dissapointing for me as I have so many years of experience and type 72 words per minute, with every credential that a person could possibly store up over the years..... but I'm not a sour grapes sort of person, I prefer to try to think of this as Paris would..... divine providence. A Message indeed.
When she gets home, [and we're doing the countdown with her] I hope she takes life a little slower, or maybe, since she's fairly youngish? -- does anyone here think she might be able to fence?
She weighs about 90 pounds, epee for Paris? Foil would be too demanding. |

| IMHO, the best thing she could ever do is just go away.

| You're probably right, but she's out of everyone's hair at this point - we'll just have to keep reading the tabloids to see where she's at after this. |

We're talking 24 hour, give you a big glass with beer in it type of drive through. 5 bucks for a pitcher at htat. |
