Trouble is, the distance to the C-pin from where the cord fits through the plastic boot is longer, so that connection is under extra strain and tends to break or pull loose.

umm no it's not, the distance with any plug is the same from the strain relief to either the a or c plugs.

Well thank God for that, given my incompetence at wiring a blade.
I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of; the mastery of the thing!

You may be thinking of a copy of a German style plug, which would be true. Dave is right. Look at a Priuer 3-prong or copy. Where the wire comes into the boot is NOT in the center, where it is on a German. Long Beach State used Prieur. I always made each of the lengths different lengths to compensate for that design.

To show this even better. If you have a Prieur or copy 3-prong, take the connector away from the boot and then turn it 180 degrees and you will find the holes do not line up with the little prongs in the boot. The design is made to have the C line the shortest.
