Array Golubitsky retired? I x-posted this on R.S.F.
I see on the Nīmes 2001 web site there is a referee named "GOLUBYTSKY Sergei" from the Ukraine with a B rating in foil. http://www.fie.ch/MondiauxEscrime/Nimes/arbitrInt.htm
Has Sergei retired? Or is this another person of the same name?

Array He is pretty much retired. I think he fences in a couple world cups (at least this year) but he doesn't really compete anymore.
He's got his own fencing center in the Netherlands (the Golubitsky fencing center). http://www.gfc-world.com/ - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

I think that B rating is for directing, not fencing. -

Array Also, Golubitsky has been referring in competitions for a while now. I know he ref'd at the World Champs in Seoul... - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Actually, to my knowledge Golubitski hasn't fenced in a USFA competition, so he's technically a 'U' .

Array Hello all,
I got in touch with Ilgar Mamedov (good friend of Golubitski's) and he tells me that he's "just tired" and is still considering the '04 Olympic games.
Good thing to hear he's not done yet.

Now THERE'S a scary thought.
We gotta get him to a NAC! -

Array Man, I hate it when those guys do that. I was at the Santa Clara Summer Nationals and there was this "u" just kicking butt. He was either Ukrainian or Russian named Zaretski. The guy that eliminated me in the div2 foil made the 8 and drew him. The score was 14 zip and Zaretski felt bad for him so he led with his chest so the poor guy could get at least one touch! Harsh!!!!!! He ,of course, wound up the winner.Anybody know whatever happened to him? Last I heard he was with fencing 2000. "Kill the men, save the women, and by the gods, do not spill the wine" -

Array I've actually seen how the USFA handles stuff like that. They either give them a rating or the keep track of what they've won already.
Two examples:
There was this Polish guy that just moved to the Chicago area and he'd been competing with his FIE liscense, but he went to the St. Valentines Day massacre at Notre Dame and didn't have his card with him, so he just joined the USFA and they rated him as a U. He ended up knocking out a B and dropped the tournament to a B instead of an A, and there was a lot of finagling trying to get him a B, but since he wasn't internationally ranked, the best the USFA would do is give him a rating that he'd earned already at another tournament. Carla Mae Richards said they do something like that for the Canadians that come and compete in the NACs here, they just keep track of national points they earned and seed them accordingly.
The other thing that happens is sometimes they just give you a rating if you competed internationally. My coach, when she first moved, here had competed for Bulgaria as a pentathalete and since she was internationally ranked they just gave her an A. I'm sure if Golubitsky came to a NAC they wouldn't have an issue with giving him an A. -
well i think its another golub stuff ... he s retired and back in 2004 to win OG ... classical .....
i have a friend who was in the golub center in holland ... he wasnt fencing a lot (golub), but does he have to ? and did he trained just 1 week in hgis life ? hhaha thats golub...
i should go to WC in nimes, but i have no real friend engaged so ... dont know.... -
Golubitsky is teaching at a fencing camp which I attending this week (he is coaching my group and I have to admit that he is both amazing and harsh - we are taught too softly here...).
Golubitsky is apparently going to do "the occassional" competition.
