| I can testify to this because I've done all of the above. And although Home schooling depends on the parents who are doing it (and/or tutors) it can be dangerous. It's like a vegetarian diet. It can be good, but too many people forget to get their proteins elsewhere.
Private schooling, without a doubt, and yes, I've been to more than one, SUCKS! Really, reaaly, bad. The kids their are all a$$holes. All of them. Like, not even a cool kid in the corner. They are all little preppy losers (except the ones on this site ) that would'nt know the actual value of a dollar if they were set loose in Brooklyn with $30 bucks. They have no artistic talent, don't understand theirs more to life than money and girls, and all have ipods with bad music.
Public schools are best because you get all kids from all walks of life. It is possible to get a public school so bad you have to take refuge somewhere else, like a private school or home schooling, or a catholic school where all the girls wear those kinky knee high skirts, and, just like in my dreams, are as naughty as hell. (They want to rebel against the whole thing, because it gets crammed down their throats. So they cram other things down they're throats. In a church! Which is why Catholicism is so screwed up and why I'm thinking about converting back to it.) |

| Hi!
Signed up as public school, since that is what best describes my case.
In Sweden, kids with at least one foreign parent have the right to tutoring in that parentīs language. In my case, my parents made my school accept that my mom tutor me in her native tongue, American English. She made me read the constitution in extenso at age 9. So, a little home schooling there.
After I finished off one yearīs worth of math problems during one evening in 3rd grade, my parents pushed my school to give the class math teacher the added job of tutoring me alone once a week until I have finished off jr high and high school math a few years later. So, a little private schooling there.
My parents in a nutshell.
In Sweden, real home schooling is illegal, the politicians dislike the idea of any parents being able to withdraw from society. They are afraid of the thought "Gee, our kid does not use the public school system - why should we pay taxes for it?" For similar reasons, private schooling has been very rare up until recently, the pols trying to counteract it. No school vouchers (until recently) in a high-tax country restricts it to really well-off parents.
Have a nice time!

| I've encountered it all as well, I have found homeschooling to be my favourite. I teach myself and avoid people that I hate. All around fun. Public school was too boring for me, the teachers really didn't teach me anything that I didn't know, none of them could get me to understand math, the students were all banging each other and getting high each weekend, I don't like dealing with them. I never studied for tests and I always received A's. The systems really are horrid, and I went to one of the 'rich and smart' schools. It was sad. I've only had two teachers that I liked, and they really loved to teach. I love to learn new things, I'm voracious student and I latch on to any information that I can get my hands on. I truly think that homeschooling is the best way to learn because it's so flexible.

| Where's the option for more than one?
I've been to more schools than I can count (one of the many awesome things about being a military brat). Parochial, private, public, military, international. Top-tier systems, dirt-poor systems. Standard pedagogy, experimental pedagogy, advanced pedagogy, hippy-dippy pedagogy, Montessori pedagogy. You name it, I've probably been to that kind of school.
Not home-schooled, however. That would have sucked. Moving every year is hard enough on the social life, but how much harder if you don't get a chance to spend time with other people. Not saying it would suck for other people, but for me that would have been no fun.
If I had to pick the best kind, I'd have to say military school. Of course, I was one of those psychos who even got a kick out of plebe training. But the discipline, focus, high expectations and leadership just totally beat the hell out of the rest when it came to my achievement and preparation for later life. |

Nah, it's "What kind of schooling at the present time?" and "your main schooling" (i take classes at college, but still am homeschooled; my brother takes classes at HS and is still homeschooled. It doesn't mean if you're TOTALLY one or the other, but put down your type that has the bulk of your subjects, alright?)
coolio.

Public education is one of the great buttresses of society. Without education for all, we would not stay where we are in the world for now.

The assertion that education for all makes it seem as if that is QUALITY education. There are many other nations with a public education system that produces higher literacy rates than ours. The truth strength in our education comes at the collegiate level where everyone truly has an opportunity to enroll in college be it a community college or a university. The American elementary public school system pales in comparison to that of other nations with public education eg China, Japan, Germany.

| Oh yes, there is huge room for improvement, and our education system is certainly not one of the greatest out there, but without it we would be in much worse shape.
And besides, it will not improve if everone abandons it.

| Public school through HS.
Private university.
Grad school at public university.
Random classes at local community college.
Currently not taking classes.
Planning to figure out how the tuition remission benefit I have works to start taking random classes (well, likely not random, but undecided on what I'll be working towards at this point) at a public university.
