Array Senior moment Help I'm having a senior moment! My question is, at age 48, am I considered a Veteran, a Senior, or just some old fart that is to old to compete? I can't seem to remember the age split. Seems to me I saw a FIE idea about raising seniors to age 50. If I compete in the coming season what do I call myself. (besides foolish)... -

Array Veterior? Seneran? Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Array In the United States, you are a Veteran fencer. However, for the purposes of the World Championships, you are a young tyke still wet behind the years. The U.S. defines a Veteran as 40+ while the FIE defines Veteran as 50+.
The Veteran competitions at NACs this year are in Palm Springs in December and Reno in March, and will be fenced with all age groups combined. The Veteran competitions in the Summer Nationals will be age group championships only (40-49, 50-59, 60+)
The cut-off date for the 2002 Veteran World Championships being held in Tampa, Florida Labor Day Weekend will be your age as of August 1, 2002. If you're aiming for a world team slot, then, you're not old enough yet. Isn't it nice not to be old enough for something?
(for USFA veteran competitions, the cut-off date is as of January 1, 2002)

Jeeves:
You have another alternative...you're not restricted from competing in the Senior events...
At 47 I have recently returned to fencing (10 yrs since my last comeback...)and I'm trying to decide also...
I expect for me it will become clear in the next 6 months...
