| Equiptment High tops For the last few years I have been wearing tennis shoes to fence. I have tried a few different fencing shoes but they all gave me arch problems. I was thinking about giving the Asyms a try but they don't make them anymore. All I can find are the symetrical high tops. Anyone have them? tell me about them please. |

Much better arch support.

| Actually I wear New Balance. These shoes are fine so far. Only thing is they are a bit bulky and and back foot doesn't roll very well when I lunge and sometime they drag too much when I recover forward. I have tried using orthodics with fencing shoes but it didn't feel very comfy. |

| Don't know where you were looking for shoes, but Blue Gauntlet still has Asyms for sale. $180 if you want a pair....
Most places still carry the Asyms. |

| I would travel 1st class if I could, but alass, I have teenagers. By high tops, I assume you mean ankles covered and protected? I bought a pair of high tops three yrs. ago and they are fantastic...but here's the catch, they're from Academy (so not hip). Reabok(sp?), black leather lace-up w/ velcro strap, and a wonderful court-sport sole. They match my black, and necessary, ankle brace, and my black socks. I only got them because everything else wore out at the heel of my lunging foot. The traction on court floors is AMAZING and they give me support and comfort. I want more.

| The Adidas high tops are great shoes, if you put in a special sole to give more shock absorption.
I have had them and they lasted 2 years with a lot of fencing (wore them at practice 3 times a week, and tournaments, 90% of the time on metallic strips, with very abrasive surface).

I think that the Asymetric design is going to become a "classic" kind of design that people are going to keep looking for, even now that Adidas isn't making them. I don't really like the new design, and I have heard the same from a lot of people. That's probably why they are going to cost more and more as the demand increases and the number of available shoes diminishes

| ok so i have those new adidas adistars, and they REALLY sucked when i first got them. the soles were hard and they made my toes hurt and all that jazz, but if you actually take the time to break them in.... they are glorious. i have really high arches, so i do need arch support as well. these have some, not a serious amount, but im sure you could get some little pads to put in. and the asyms you can still find online or im sure you could find them at a NAC
good luck
