| Olympic Photos CD-ROM? I was talking with Serge Timacheff over at FencingPhotos.com about the Olympics and his experience there and we got into all of the photos that he took.
We floated out the idea of providing a set of CD-ROMs that would contain sets of the photos that he took at the Games and be able to create them on demand based on specific sets of photos.
The CDs would contain a large number of raw (untouched, unfiltered) photos of each of the individual events. Each CD "set" would be of one weapon, and of the semi-final and medal bouts.
The question that he asked me about was if people would buy a CD set for personal use (slideshows, study positions/actions with the 8 frame-per-second bursts of photos, small printouts) for around $20 per weapon.
So, given that, post your comments and answer the poll so Serge can see if it's worth it for him to put this together.
Thanks!
Craig

| If the images could be used a tad bit more generally, such as for club websites, newsletters, etc..., then I would be interested in purchasing. But as far as strictly personal use, I wouldn't have as much of a need for the shots.
Also, on a separate note, Serge's photos from the Olympics are brilliant.

| I agree with 1&0s. If the CDs allowed permission to place them in websites, or in my case, using them for the biography in DVD's, it will be great.
His shoots are the best fencing photography available. Evan might give him competition in a few years.

| Clubs generally have limited resources. What would be much more helpful is a "best of" CD for $25-30 (three weapons). Three CDs is not practical, even if the quality is good. |

| Went back over my notes and I had put in the wrong pricing ($20, not $25) - corrected it in the first post.

| This is a good idea, but I probably wouldn't purchase digital photos just to "have them." I'd be interested in getting a 3-weapon "best of" compilation, and paying a bit more, for rights to use in a local print context.
E.g., not national, max 100x printed copies, or something. The CD might also include smaller, watermarked versions with permission to use in a website.
I would use these images for:
- newsletters
- a poster / big print or two for the home/salle
- flyers
- illustrations in handouts for classes
So if the price could scale to intended usage, that would be great. A la photodisc.com or something.
I second the sentiment -- great photos!! |

| I agree with the general sentiment above. Would buy if I could use on websites or posters etc.

| Personally, I wouldn't buy it at any price. The photos are great, and it would not be a bad product, but there's no way I would spend that kind of money on something like that. |

| I would pay a little more for a best of with stock photo rights...
Or I'd be willing to pay $10-15 for lower quality pics that could be used as a desktop wallpapers, etc.
So, I'd pay a little more for a little more. Or a little less for a little less, but I'm not too sure about what you're offering.
Rolls. |

| No. Sorry but I don't think I'd buy it. The price with added shipping fees would just be too expensive.
However, if the CDs were available for sale at a competition I might consider it. (Not an option here in Sweden though...)

| Having seen some of the ones on his site, yes, I would, esp. if they are not US-centric.
Those are great shots...
