Sorry ed. I was wondering why you hadn't checked the FIE page... Not being a foil fencer, I don't follow these close enough to know the difference, and the event was listed on the FIE site as Havana 2002.

The results are now up for this year's event--Sanzo (IT) beat Bissdorf (GER) in the final. Dupree (USA) was 22nd, Tiomkin (USA) was 29th, Kellner (USA) was 43rd.

    Check the FIE page <a href="http://www.fie.ch/Classement/default.htm" target="_blank">http://www.fie.ch/Classement/default.htm</a>
On the choices on the left, choose Competitions for Type and the rest you can figure out.
The big news is Keeth Smart and Sada Jacobson both won silver medals. Ameilia Gaillard and Chris Becker also made top 8. Women's foil results aren't up yet.

None of the Hungarians or Russians were there, but some of the top french sabre fencers, Couvaliu, some Germans were there. So it's not as though Smart didn't do the, er, SMART thing. I'm surprised that Lee didn't do as well as Smart did. I'm figuring Lee to be the most crucial sabre fencer for the US by the 2004 Olympics.

And, I did talk to some of the fencers returning from Cuba. They told me how some of them did.

Any word on any of the Women's Epee fencers from the US? FIE site still hasn't got that up...
