The D&D thread

Well since the thread with "this is a crazy forum" became a massive D&D conversation (in no small part due to my post about nerds) I figure it's time to find out how many of us really play D&D.

P.S - If you don't vote I'll hunt you down using a scout eye ball summoned froma level four spell of "Summon Scout Eyeball" and I'll kill you using a foil + 10, +3 piercing damage vs non voters.

It's a wizard eye spell not a scout eyeball spell, and weapons can never have a straight to hit bonus higher than +5 unless it is an artifact of medium or greater power. I voted yes but the way...

Second addition D&D had speed factors for weapons, which I thought was a very nice touch. A mid-level rogue with amdex and two weapon fighting (a good strength helped for the damage bonus) throwing daggers could get off 5 shot before the average fighter could swing his sword. And if you got the sneak attack in, all was fine since he would only get one attack on his first round since he had to move to get in range. My geekdom is now confirmed.

D&D is cool with me... I play weekly with some friends from the fencing club. But I am about to move to NC and start a killer 1890's (a la 2nd ed. Ravenloft 1890's) game.

boo yah

Best campaign settings:
1) Dark Sun
2) Planescape
3) Dragonlance
4) Ravenloft, Terror in the 1890's

Better Campaign Setting:

My own...

EDIT: and Forgotten Realms so smokes Dragonlance. Also as far as 3rdED settings, Forgotten Realms is the best one they've made (haven't looked at Eberron). Just trying the new White-Wolf game system.

I play D & D and recently a friend started running a Star Wars RPG using the D20 system.

I used to run Rifts but it got to be too much of a headache. I sold all of my Rifts books to Powells here in Portland. I got $120 for the whole set. The box of books weighed aroun 90 lbs.

I've been waiting for an official D20 version of planescape (aside from "manuel of the planes"). My first character was a Tiefling using the the old Planscape players guide rules for creating one.

Forgotten Realms is the best of the D&D worlds IMHO. I am also a fan of the Wheel of Time setting, but it tends to get boring after you hit about 10th level.

How does one go about starting in DnD? Do I have to buy like, a gameboard or something?

Well it depends, if you want to truley be at one with the nerd you have to go off and buy D&D kits and boards or some such junk.
If you want to have quick easy fun then grab a copy of one of the many super fun D&D PC games out there.
Baldur's Gate I & II or Neverwinter Nights.

Cool, Inquartata plays D&D too!

And even I can't deny the power that is Drizzt Do'Urden, but the Lady of Pain could squash him.
