Another query re: sabre blades and equip

Hello all--

I fenced competitively for 3 years in college and then recreationally on and off for the past 6 years or so. Never got around to getting my own equipment though...but now I want to get more serious again and get my own stuff.

Initially I want to get a jacket, glove and dry sabre (continue to use club mask for a bit...)

For the jacket and glove I was going to go with LP...

Re: Sabre blade--I tend to prefer a lighter blade balanced more towards the grip. I have the cash to spend...so, I don't need the cheapest thing out there (don't need the most expensive either...but would like something of good quality that will last for a while)

Thanks in advance!

You did not say your location so I will assume that you are in the US. It is hard to go wrong with LP kit as it is some of the best made around. If you were looking to save a few dollars I have been pleased with the Blue Gauntlet nylon jackets. Also the Uhlmann/Allstar jackets are another excellent choice in about the same price range as LP.

For blades I like the StM saber blades but I am far from a real saber fencer. I have a BG ultralight saber blade with their lightweight guard that is very fast and seems to be quite durable. Others I have talked to (who are real saber fencers) like these blades a great deal as well. Another popular choice seems to be the LM/BF blades from Uhlmann/Allstar/PBT.

For sabre blade the $18 model from BG is a good choice. Hard to tell which of the complete sabres come with it vs the $16 model (which I would avoid) or the $20 model (also a good choice). Perhaps talking directly to them is the best move there. In my experience these blades handle well and last as long as any other.
