Array Epee International Vancouver, BC Does anyone know what the criteria are to compete in this WC A event? I know last year a number of fencers from Seattle went to it and I'm hoping to go this year.
Thanks! -

Array Last year, I think you had to have national div1 points in order to be able to fence in this world cup. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
- To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

Array Note that this year the event is apparently during the second weekend of the USFA's summer nationals. I wonder if the USFA will arrange the epee events at summer nationals to be early in the week, so the epeeists that want to do both events can do so. -

Array Last year, the rules were that if it was in this hemisphere (North and South America) you were good to go, no matter what your rank (that's the info I got).
If you wanted to go to an A competition in Europe, you needed to be in the top 16 on the points list. They'd only send 8, though. The rules were different for satellite competitions. Veeco, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think anyone could go to those.
The rules may change for this year; I haven't seen the new Athlete's Handbook. I doubt that it will change very significantly. Don't let 'em drop it. Don'tlet'emdropit. Stop it... bebop it.

Array The criteria to enter this event will be set by the FIE and if they do not limit entries in any manner, the Canadian Fencing Federation (www.fencing.ca) can set their own limitations - or not. Unless the FIE changes their policies for non-Grand Prix World Cups held in this hemisphere, the USFA can't stop you from paying your money to the CFF and going to Vancouver and fencing (provided you have an FIE license, of course!). It's just curiouser and curiouser! -

Competitions of the FIE outside of europe may set their own guidelines for entries for countries of the same zone as far as i'm aware.... check the organisational rules for senior world cups.
