Problem with French "ST" Points

We have just assembled an ST french point on a foil. This is the first time we have tried a french. We are using a french spring, but were wondering if maybe it is too small for an ST french point, because the protrusion on the contacts does not fit into the spring. What keeps the spring on a french foil in contact?

Should the spring be stretched so it can wrap around the protrusioin on the tip?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Do you mean a Sport 7 point? (Where did you buy it from?) Sport 7 points and Prieur/HPC points aren't totally compatible, and there are some dimensional differences between the springs. Also, there is also the issue that parts from the same manufacturer can be inconsistent (they often subcontract their components, and if they change the sub there can be differences).
