| BG / SG Masks Besides what people have said on the Product Reviews page, does anyone have any experience with Blue Gauntlet / SG masks? (F/E or 3W specifically, I'm not concerned w/sabre masks) My "too good to be true alarm" is going off, but they're cheap enough that even one season's use might be worth the price... |

| The non-fie masks are pretty decent for beginners/practice. Mine held up for 3 years before I got a fie kit. Their FIE mask, however, is just a bit big and heavy. It makes me look like I have a birth defect when I wear it, my head looks so huge. Blah. |

| The Blue Gauntlet "Olympic" mask is what I buy for club masks. It's a good beginner's mask, and should hold up until you're committed enough to spring for an FIE mask. I'd choose them over some of the cheaper Russian/East Euro. masks I've seen, and they've held up better than a batch of Gajardoni-sourced Triplette masks I had previously acquired for the club.

| I have had some negative aspect on the FIE mask that were fairly new. It is mostly a warning to look at the equipment you get before you use it.
At one local tournament, I failed 2 Blue Gaunlet FIE masks. The first had a nice weave going up the mask, until one of the wires was a little short and didn't make it to the top.
The second also had a nice weave, until it stop going in for 2 wires. Both left large holes.
Whenever I get a mask to test I look inside and hold it up to the light and look for irregularities. When you buy a mask, do this yourself. If you find any, hand it back and get another.

whats a good non-FIE mask. my original blue gauntlet mask was good but i'm wondering if there's a better, sturdier one i can get without going overboard with price. |

| The PBT ones are quite nice. As are Leon Paul. The Prieur are the best, but pricey.

| I'm on my 2nd BG FIE. I like my 2nd more, because of the lining and the bib. I'd buy another if I had cause, mine have taken a lot of abuse, I like them. I've looked at many...how can you say your face is over valued, so use a cheaper mask...silly, but you can get good value at lower cost. If it is up to spec, then send it back and seriously dog them until they pay for the hassles. Consumer protections come with credit card use you know.
