From what my Oriental friend told me, Asian is a geographical term while Oriental descibes a certain culture and civilization. The Chinese and Japanese are not only Asian but firstly they are Oriental while the Filipinos and Malaysians etc are just Asian because they're countries are situated in an area that the west has named Asia. I know that most Orientals do not consider Filipinos or South East Asains to be in the same race as them.

Well I don't care about being pc. I don't even answer to the title of African American. I think its long and incorrect. I just rather be called black. My Oriental friends don't like being called Asian because they don't feel it is accurate. I know that most people in Europe do not like being called Europeans. They want to be French or Italian or English or Spanish or whatever. The point is they have pride in what they are and they don't want to be grouped with with other nationalities that they don't have anything to do with. I can perfectly understand why a Korean or a Chinese wouldn't want to be categorized with a Filipino or a Camobodian. They just aren't the same race.

I have no idea. Asian and oriental are both just adjectives. Most of my Chinese friend would rather be categorized as Chinese than just Asian. Same with my Japanese and Korean friend. BTW, can you tell the different Orientals/Asians apart?
