What are you talking about Eric?
"women's fencing can now almost not stand on it's own legs"??

Grammatical mistakes aside, Women's fencing is consistantly the strongest game in town for Americans! And that is because the women have stepped up their game. They are more physical, more competetive and more powerful than ever, and that is BECAUSE they fenced with men. (In my opinion.)

    Kid,
My distance is fine. Perhaps you should practice your reading comprehension, and you would realize my opponent impaled herself onto my point, and did not run into me. And as to good fencers not hitting hard, what a load of crap. Ann Marsh, Iris Z, Gesina Schiel, Margo Miller can give very, good solid hits. Uli Schreck, Stefano Cerioni, Mattias Behr all hit hard, just to name a few. So save your advice some some scrub who take your word for it.

I think the reference to hard-hitting is not to people who hit hard. Felix Reichling, for example, hit hard (and hit soft, when needed). But the reference is to people who can't control themselves. These are the newbie fencer who hit hard AFTER being scored upon. Either as a vengeful act or out of bad reaction/habit. It also refers to those who can't control their bodies and fling themselves at people, running into them and bowling them over.

These are traits of beginning male fencers, and are rarely traits of experienced or beginner women fencers, or experienced men fencers.

I just got back from the Duel in the Desert tournament. Boy, was it a lot of fun!! Of course, as an E-rated fencer, I didn't figure in the medals, but I enjoyed it anyway. (I scored a touch off Michael D'Asaro! Woo-hoo!) It was exciting to see the Zimmermans and other fencers of that caliber in action. The exhibition bouts (for the casino chips) were all real nail-biters. I loved the format--raised piste, lights, director with a microphone, commentator, hosts in evening wear. All in all, a great show.

Regardless of your opponents' sex, fence your best and let them complain about whatever they'll complain about. Their perspective is not your problem. You've already got your coach, the director and yourself to listen to -- who needs one more voice?

As for the Duel in the Desert: I'd love to read about the results. (And I started a new thread for that reason just the other day.)

Please let it be known that I am not the organizer, nor an organizer, for the Duel In The Desert. I'm just an advocate and supporter of the event. Evan Ranes is the grand fromage for the event, and all praises and complaints should be directed to him. For the most part, all I have heard were good words about the event. I expect to see men's sabre next year to be around 50+, women's sabre to be around 30+, and an additional 20 competitors in other events (except the veteran events, where we should see maybe an increase of 5-10 in each event).

Edew, I directed my comments to you because I knew you were there and I knew that you posted to this board. You sure LOOKED official

By the way, I'm deleting my previous post because I can see that more accurate and complete results are posted in another topic.
