| make sure you're not tense, keep a loose body.
be aggresive but not stupid. try to set up your attacks and draw out the reactions of your opponents. for instance, if you can catch someone off guard a lot of people do a reactionary parry 4, and follow it up with 6 (this isn't like a rule or anything, just a common bad habit- i know i have it). figure out how to draw out their reactionary parries and beat them.
MOVE ALL THE TIME. this means control the distance, not jump around randomly.
the biggest mistakes I see from beginners is standing still too much and being too tense.
also, if you are going to attack, GO ALL OUT. Unless you have a specific idea in mind, there is no reason not to go balls out when you attack.
do everything with the fingers and hand. try not to use the arm at all.
focus on having good footwork, balance and direction changes. they are the key to fencing. |
