Idea

Question (reporter):

"mr president, you've been a governor and a president, so you have the experience of looking at it in two directions. What do you think tribal sovereignty means in the twenty-first century, and how do we resolve conflicts between the tribes and the federal and state governments?"

Answer (Dubya):

"Yeah. Uh, tribal sovereignty means just that; it's sovereignty...it's...you're a...you're a...you've been given sovereignty....and you're viewed as a....sovereign entity. (5 second pause, some laughter.) And therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between....sovereign entities."

This is pretty exact.

Mark Trahant: Mr. President you have been a governor and a president, so you have unique experience looking at it from two directions; What do you think tribal sovereignty means in the twenty first century? And How do we resolve conflicts between tribes and the federal and state governments?

President Bush: Well, tribal sovereignty means that, it's sovereign. That you are given sovereignty and you are viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore, the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities.

Or something like that, along with scattered laughter and some mis-speaking.

With all the negative media, and the frustration with George W., how can he still be in this race?

I don't understand. Is there something that Americans like about him that seems to keep him running alonside Kerry? Trying not to be sarcastic, but I'm really curious....

Remember who owns the media, and who serves the best interests of those owners. Now ask why a candidate like Howard Dean was completely assassinated by the media while Kerry was allowed to make it. Now ask why they constantly repeat the attacks on Kerry verbatim during their interviews. It makes sense if you look at who owns and controls the media (and they aren't a liberal elite).

Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch, a rather conservative individual. CNN is owned by AolTimeWarner or whatever they're calling themselves, NBC is owned by GE, ABC by Disney, CBS by Viacom. If you think that the companies aren't cynical enough to actively participate in content, Richard Clarke managed to receive a spotlight on CBS - a double segment interview on 60 minutes - whose book just happened to be published by Simon & Schuster (another arm of Viacom).

I'm not saying that these people are pure evil, but corporations have their own best interests at heart (some would argue those of the stockholder) and nudging things against an anti-corporate candidate like Dean or in favor of a very pro-corporate tax-cutting Bush would be in their interests. Not to say that there was a memo sent down saying "do this" but when you know what your boss wants to hear, you tend to say it, even if you yourself don't believe it.

The story of the liberal media comes from the fact that most reporters themselves are liberal, but the coporations that control them are far from it. It's arguable how much influence each party has, but I believe that the corporate owners has the most.
