| Training books and Videos Can anyone recommend good fencing books or videos? I've done some fencing in the past with the SCA, which from what I've seen is not very popular around here......sorry..... Am starting to take up competetive fencing. Right now I'm in Germany with the US Army, and don't know any fencing clubs (is that the right term?) around here, so I'll probably have to start learning on my own. Will take classes and start fencing more regularily when I get home, hopefully by the end of the year. Have contacted the Wisconsin Fencing Acadamy, I'll be in Milwaukee and that's the only group I found in the area not affiliated with a college. Any recommendations would be helpful.

| For books -- Rudy Volkmann's "Magnum d'Escrime", aka "The Big Book of Fencing" has everything a new fencer would need, and more. If you're self-training for a while, the book even contains the plans for a Fencing Dummy, which you can build and then whale on.
For video -- there's a new video series coming out on VHS (not PAL, tho, as far as I know). It's called "The Fencing Primer." It's a series of videos about building a fencer and has all the basics usually covered in classes. It's by Joel Glucksman. I've only seen the first two videos of the series, but it looks promising. |

| Walter, do you think you could put together a fencing aerobics video? Set it to some electronica or hip hop tunes? |

| There should be a fair amount of clubs in Germany. You might want to contact Deutscher Fecther Bund at www.fechten.org, the German USFA equivalent. They should be able to direct you to a club in your area. If you read German, Emil Beck's Fechten is available in Germany, otherwise the Volkmann book is good for a beginner. Good luck. |
