| Logging out Craig,
For a couple of weeks now, when I log out I get a message to the effect that there was an error, and am invited to "click here to log out".
It's only one additional step, but should this be of any concern? |
| | | And now for this message... | |

| Same here. I haven't been keeping track, but I'd say it's been about a week and 1/2 or so since I noticed

| How come I don't stay logged in? I used to not visit the site for about 3 days and still be loggedin, and now I leave for about 2 hours and I'm logged out.

| I've found that this error message appears when you log out using the top-right logout button/link.
When using the one at the bottom of the page - no error mesage.

(In addition I can say that when doing this from my computer at work the Armed Forces software policy restricts me from using any other browser, so before you mention it: No, Firefox is not an option here.)
Edit: Oh, and the problem is not staying logged in, but getting logged out...

| By the way, Z, you mentioned a log-out "button" at the bottom of the page. I can't find one there. Maybe I'm just blind---can you point it out? |

| Scroll down to the very bottom of the page, on your right is - not a button - but a "link".
I'll try to attach a dump but it might be too big... *fumbles*

| Ah, it's only at the bottom of the main forum page, then, not every page like the top link. Thanks. |

| Two years ago we were whining about the error message that would pop up when we VOLUNTARILY Logged out of Fencing.Net. A few of us noticed and in the spirit of "helping Craig" we posted notification - in case he wanted to fix it.
I'm sure it's been posted before, but after using the snap Fencing.Net Seach facility, I didn't find the thread that whines about and posts (again in the spirit of "helping Craig") to mention the incessant log-outs we now experience. I log in about 15 times aday and that just makes this place much harder to keep up with than when I could keep the website running in the background while doing work or errands. So... CRAIG.... do we have to be logged out every five minutes or is there something we can do to prevent it?
I think I saw a post from someone about membership having its privileges, perhaps one of which is that paid members don't get logged out automatically? If not, what IS the secret to staying logged on long enough to make it through some slow typing and verbose posts? |

| I'm on firefox and I've never had a login (or logout) problem.
Of course, I only log in when I clear my cookies or whatever stores my password, and never voluntarily log out. |

| Please don't shout.
I really don't know what the issue is if you are being timed out. I stay logged in all of the time with no problems. (I check the "remember me" button when logging in and I've never been logged out unless I log myself out.)
Maybe it's the cookie settings or something, but I'm using standard config Firefox and IE 6 and not seeing that problem.
I'll look at membership settings again just to see if there is something there.

| I think it's the security level of cookie acceptance. I am on another computer tonight and I am not getting logged off when idle for an extended period.

| I haven't been having any trouble with being logged out either, fwiw. Using Firefox (1.5.0.7), 'remember me' and all that good stuff. |
