| Bring It On Again I'm at the computer terminal surfing a bit before bed, with the TV running in the other room for noise, when what should I see around the doorway but a fencing scene! ... Heh. ... If you can call it "fencing," I s'pose. Too funny. The upstart cheerleading squad has been forced to practice in areas that normally don't get much use, including the fencing team strips. And while the cheerleaders is revving up the guys in lames, the fencing actions are becoming broader, more cinematic, until finally one of the guys runs the other through his chest (with a saber, I think).
We need cheerleaders. |

I saw that while walking through the living room. They were fencing in the epee style (pokie pokie) with foil lames on using a saber. Hit all three weapons, but you would have to watch most of the movie to get to that part.

| Roger Ebert gave the movie a Big Thumb Up(TM), even though it was a potentially mediocre production saved only by the brief fencing scene: The ads for 'Bring It On Again' claim that this movie will frighten you as few movies have, and, for once, the ads don't lie. The movie is so intense that it creates a problem for me as a reviewer: Do I praise its craftsmanship, or do I tell you it left me feeling wrung out and unhappy?
It has been a week since I saw it, so the emotions have faded a little, leaving with me an appreciation of the movie's technical qualities. But when I walked out of the theater, there were knots in my stomach from the film's roller-coaster ride of violence. This is not the kind of movie where it means anything to say you 'enjoyed' it.
'Bring It On Again' is a sequel to the very effective 1979 film, 'Bring It On,' but it tells a self-contained story that begins 57 years after the previous story ended. The first time around, you may recall, Sigourney Weaver and a shipload of her fellow space voyagers were exploring a newly discovered planet when they found an abandoned spaceship. ...
Oops. Wrong review.
But I'm certain that Ebert enjoyed the fencing. He has consistently turned around his opinions about other movies based entirely on whether they involved a sword fight -- "Die Another Day," for example, and "The Parent Trap," both of which were stinkers UNTIL fencing transformed the plot.
This was one such movie. Sure, the other 89 minutes of the show were about cheerleading, but the SPIRIT and HEART of the story could be found in the swordplay. |

| A terrible terrible terrible travesty of a film, i had such high hopes after the academy award deserving original (well for visuals at least! ) but it really really sucks.
(oh and as a fencer the 'fencing'is truely taumatic! ((although strangely fun looking.....)) ) |

| Roger Ebert gave the "Beavis and Butt-head" movie a thumbs up. I haven't trusted him since.

| I watched this movie 2 days before a national comp while staying with my cousins. I had to stop the DVD and explain that this wasnt exactly what I did, it was a bit of a gross mirepresentation. Thankfully I had weapons in my room to explain!!! Actually I wonder if I can blame the bad fencing in this movie on my abysmal result???

Loved your post Victor!
I give it two thumbs up.

| The Girl Next Door Just watched "The Girl Next Door" and since ya'll were talking about fencing in movies thought I'd bring it up. Hs not one, but two seens involving fencing in this movie. First is when the main character is talking to one of his friends who just finished a bout. Has a Leon Paul Mask. The second is later when they're making thier movie and the kid who "saves the day" saves face by wearing his fencing mask, and very little else........
