Exercises to prepare?

Not in a fencing class or anything...yet...but thought I'd get a jump start on it, like, exercises and stuff. Is there anything to do? like, push ups, go running, or anything else to build up abilities needed? Heh, I need exercise anyway...

Pushups, calf raises, squats, situps, light weight lifting, running, STRETCHING, Burpees, chin ups, and drinking lots of water.

Running will help (both distance and sprinting) but the biggest thing that would help would be squats/lunges. I don't think there is anything that will quite take away the pain of your first footwork class, but stronger legs will make it easier, and the cardio workout will help you later on.

Stretch, stretch, stretch, stretch! You need stretching. I would recommend stretching each night before you hit the sack. I have a nightly routine that consists of one hundred pushups, leg holds for a minute and a half (leg holds are when you lie on the ground and point your toes as you hold them up six inches off of the ground) and I thoroughly stretch every muscle in my body. It really works for anything, and it's great for fencing. Stretching daily also helps your circulation, and keeps your body young. hehe, this is from a health nut...

There are only three things my coach says to do, the difference is in the amount: Walking/Joggin, Toe touches, Situps. Do these and they will improve your physical fencing capacity greatly within a few monthes.
