Array Foil Actions CD-Rom #2 I think I would like to see a second CD come out. More focused on strategy and concepts. Craig, you don't even need footage of the pros. Most of that footage sucks and it is too far away. You could make it with you and your clubmates and I'm sure it would be better becuase you can place the camera at the best spots and angles and you can retake the shot if it wasnt what you wanted. Most importantly you could be specific. Some of the footage in the CD just didn't match well enough with the explanations What do you think? -

Array Now that the concept is proven for clips+discussion delivered on CD, the field is wide open for anybody who wants to give it a shot. The other cd-rom products fall short (IMHO) of the possibilities of cd-rom -- they're really just VHS tapes on disc. Maybe the foil actions cd will a big clue to other content producers.
As for creating the product, it's very hard to find the right combination: a fencer, who has ideas to write, who can write reasonably well, who has the time, and who will work for not much money. Add to that: A big video library, video capture software, video and html editing skills. Anyhow, in the future, I hope there are lots more interactive learning tools like the foil actions cd-rom... I know I'd be a consumer. -

Array Walter,
At some point time ago, I proposed something along this lines to Craig. If you are planning to attend one of the SWS events in Texas, let me know. The first step is to get a list of actions intended to be shown, kind like a script. Email me at: texasepilepsy@earthlink.net -

Array My only suggestion would be to try and make it work on a DVD instead of a CD-ROM. I think being able to watch on a TV instead of a computer would be helpful. Also, instead of having text that you read, maybe an audio voice-over.
I thought the Foil Actions CD-ROM was great. These were just the tiny improvements I would like to see.

Foil Moves Cd?? hey all,
i've had my eye on the foil moves cd all summer, but when i was ready to buy it, the search said there's 'no product match'. Are you still selling the CD? if not, is there anyone out there who's willing to sell their old one to me?
thanks -

thanks It's in stock - check the catalog now.
RL: Yes, would be bad for you to burn one - see the copyright info on the CD and the picture that's with it! -

Array Directing Lessons / Test DVD I have been thinking about producing a directing class on CD Rom so that I could have a clip with a lesson / analysis and then a section with a clip and a multiple choice test after each clip with a score at the end.
Scripting would be as easy as taking questions from the directors test!
I know that the USFA doesn't want an answer key to the test out there, but I think that it would be a great tool since we have very few directors clinics. "I'm extraordinarily patient provided I get my own way in the end" - Margaret Thatcher -

Array Guys,
All of these video offerings are covered by intellectual properties rights. Every time that people make illegal copies of discs or books, they are decreasing the probability of later offerings. Fencing is an extremely limited market. Taking away from this market truly makes unprofitable and unsustainable. I and others have spent many hours with little or no compensation supporting the sport and this website.
Fair use means that if you own a legal copy, under some circumstances, you might be able to make a back-up copy. Clearly, the US laws allow fair use copies of VHS tapes, but as it pertain to DVDs, being digital with copy-protecting encoding, they are in limbo for consumers. -

Array Good suggestions. To date I've worked with "pre-packaged" stuff rather than scripting and setting up shooting myself. Jose and Walter have presented some good ideas and concepts to me and the project is something that could happen in the future. It will just require a bit more planning and setup.

Array edit: Wrote this last night, but my internet connection went out. Originally Posted by ReverseLunge Hey, I'm a customer. I bought this cdrom, 2 dvd's and a video tape from you guys. Now I'm giving you my feedback and it seems that you don't even want to reply. I made the Foil Actions CD-ROM, so I guess I can respond. The Foil Actions CD is sold on fencing101.com (among other places), and so Craig is aware of its quality but not responsible for it. I'm glad to say, the feedback for the CD-ROM has always been very positive.
Some videos in the CD-ROM are small due to the technology. The small videos were captured off of old media, the big videos were captured off of newer media. The important point isn't the technology, however -- it's the media itself. Fencing video takes $$ to produce, and a product like the Foil Fencing Actions CD-ROM licenses its video clips from some archive/reseller, which in turn may be "attached" or "contingently available."
I think with the growth of US fencing, it won't be too long before there is another (and then another, and another) product for helping tactics. Probably some of these products will rise to the level of quality you desire. I can say this -- the stuff available today is better than anything in the last 20 years. It implies a great deal that good fencing stuff is now being produced in America. Similar Threads -
